First Victory for the Cayman at Long Beach
Apr 19, 2012 - 9:46 AM - by K-Man S
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 15, 2012) – Jack Baldwin moved his No. 68 Hot Wheels®/GTSport/Porsche Napleton Racing (PNR) Cayman S into the lead with a quick bob-and-weave at the race start and withstood some late race pressure from a fast-closing Justin Bell to score the GTS class victory in Sunday’s Pirelli World Challenge race on the legendary Long Beach street circuit.

The win for Baldwin and Team Hot Wheels™ came in just the third race for the new Pirelli World Challenge program and will go into the record books as the first major North American road racing victory for the Porsche Cayman S. The win was also a first for Porsche Napleton Racing (PNR), the racing division of leading Chicago area Porsche dealer Napleton Porsche of Westmont that built and maintains the No. 68, team entrants GTSport Racing, and additional lead sponsor partners InvoicePrep and Voodoo Ride.

After qualifying second earlier in the day on... [Read More]

Welcome to the Future: The New 981 Boxster S in Spain!
Apr 10, 2012 - 5:47 PM - by Casey@PorscheofSilverSpring
Planet-9 Exclusive View into 981 Boxster Dealer Launch Event
The following story and photos are brought to you by Casey from Porsche of Silver Spring who attended the private dealer launch party of the 981 Boxster last month. Select personnel were also allowed to view the new 981 Cayman, but more on that later. Casey has put together an extensive collection of photos and his thoughts on the event in this and subsequent messages. Please thank Casey for sharing this valuable information and insight into the next Boxster and Cayman platform, the 981! Here's Casey:

I am a “mid-engine” guy. I grew up with an 718 RSK poster on my wall and my desk at work has a 904 and a 906 model… So I am quite a bit biased when writing this quick review.

The new Boxster world dealer preview was on the island of Gran Canaria, part of the Canary islands off of the Coast of Morocco(part of Spain). Quite and... [Read More]

RIP Ferdinand Porsche
Apr 05, 2012 - 10:12 AM - by g-money
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the original version of the iconic 911 sportscar, died today in Salzburg, Austria. He was 76.

“As creator of the Porsche 911, he established a design culture that molds our sportscars still today,” Matthias Mueller, chief executive officer of Porsche AG, said in an e- mailed statement. “His philosophy of good design is for us a legacy that we will also honor in the future.”

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, who created the original Volkswagen (VOW3) Beetle, designed the first 911 in 1962. He went on to develop racecars for the German automaker until leaving the Stuttgart-based company in 1972 with other family members when Porsche was transformed into a joint stock company.

The 911 remains the epitome of the Porsche brand, even as the carmaker, which is jointly owned by the Porsche SE holding company... [Read More]

Pirelli World Challenge Debut for Cayman
Mar 28, 2012 - 8:01 AM - by K-Man S
ST. PETERSBURG, Florida. (March 25 2012) – Jack Baldwin and the No. 68 Hot Wheels®/GTSport/Porsche Napleton Racing Cayman S team capped a successful debut in the Pirelli World Challenge series Sunday with a come-from-behind seventh-place finish in the second and final race of the weekend at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

“Today’s race, the whole weekend really, was a great learning curve for us,” Baldwin said. “We learned a lot, we accomplished our goal of a top-five finish, and I am happy with the end result, but we do have some work to do.”

Baldwin finished fifth in Saturday’s first race of the weekend doubleheader and started from the same position for the Sunday morning finale. Making his first standing starts in a race since European Formula Ford competition back in the early 1970s, Baldwin was a touch slow off the line Saturday but made up for it Sunday before trouble set in when he went to go through the gears.
