My 718 BS doesn't "tick", but when I originally test drove a 718 BS, the car's engine was ticking away. I told the SA who was with me on the drive that something's wrong with this car - his response "it's normal". I don't think it's normal. Getting a 2nd opinion is the right thing to do and if you're still not satisfied ask to speak to the local PCNA service guru.

I've read lots (LOTS) of reviews--my car hasn't been made yet--and despite many of the vehicles having thousands of kilometers/miles there has been no mention of ticking.

I've noticed no ticking on my CS. I've got about 1,500 km on it. I did not follow any special break in procedure. The only issue I have is a quiet whistle from the driver's side window over 130 km/h. Going in next week to get fixed.

Boxter MT. 6882 miles, the first 1500 or so in Europe. There were some minor cosmetic damages during shipping that were eventually repaired. Homelink works fine on both doors that I have it programmed for. The proximity sensor has freaked out a few times, always when stopped at a light near other stationary cars. I think that with so many systems on the road they are bound to interfere with each other once in a while. Sometimes I can't change radio stations from the steering while for a while; it comes back after a few minutes. I updated PCM maps once and the PCM wouldn't start at all for a day. I just got a black screen with a comical misspelled error message. It happened on a Sunday and by Monday it had cured itself on my way to the dealership.

The important thing is that it's still a blast to drive!

On the ticking situation, other than the 4 cylinder "ticking " at idle I don't hear anything. Been to 7000 RPM likely 200 times the past 2 weeks at track events with no added concerns and 700 commuting miles over that same period windows up with nothing audible . Mine is a Boxster however so noise dynamics likely different.

My 718 Boxster S is at 2900Km now. No problems whatsoever, and definitely no ticking at any engine speed.

I had this ticking when I took my car out for a quick spin with the dealer after I picked it up. He said it was weird and to bring it back in the following week, but the ticking went away after the weekend. Haven't had it since; it's been 2000 miles and one month.

    5000 Miles today.

Very few problems. Some condensation in the rear lights when I first got it and that went away and never came back. Terrible swirl marks in the paint from "dealer prep" that will get taken care of next week as I get her cleaned up from NYC winter. Summer tires put on last week. Have an annoying problem with the passenger side door not unlocking with the driver door even though it is set to do it. Could be related to my Mods4Cars convertible top controller. need to figure that out. I get pretty crappy gas mileage but I leave the car in sport mode almost all of the time, but I didn't get the car to worry about fuel economy. Love this car!

Re: Who has most miles on there 718? Any problems so far?

I love this car. I'm at around 6300km (4k miles) on a base/manual. My only real annoyance would be the drive by wire throttle map seems to be somewhat inconsistent in a gentle clutch to first from a stop. Sometimes very damp, other times not. To the point I can't use physical foot/pedal position instead I have to listen to it. This likely doesn't manifest on PDK and is probably less noticeable on the S which I should have bought perhaps.
On the track I have no complaints. The front callipers don't support quick swaps of the pads (you have to remove the callipers which is a bit of a PITA so I will likely stick with the OEM pads)
The proximity sensors have 4-5 times gone crazy in traffic or at red lights for no apparent reason.
I despise the hill assist (compared to the last rental I had this on which was a manual fiat 500). It holds the brakes for far too long.
I get odd feedback best described as a clunk/pop in the steering/suspension at times when turning at very low speeds [parking] with the wider the summers installed. Allegedly this is common to the 718 and Panamera.
The Burmester system could be louder.. I suspect this is a space constraint combined with the first convertible application. At 120km with the top down the mids are completely washed out (I'm sure it's fine with the roof up at any speed).

I really dislike the front and rear bumper moldings/diffuser/intakes/signals/etc... I can't wait to replace them all.

Zero problems to date. 4215 miles. Put summer tires on 3 weeks ago. Plan driving trip around northern New England later this week. About 1200 miles. BS 6speed.
