Re: in-mirror display for backup camera - thoughts and questions

No, prior to the install I did order the angle washers you recommended. I put it on with and without while I had the bumper off and actually found the view without the washer to be sufficient. The washers I bought may have been a little too thick though and it made the install appear not as factory like with it in place. I preferred the much cleaner look even if it meant sacrificing a little better view.

Elite275; Thanks for the update and glad you got it installed. I finished mine last week as well, after being out of country for several months and putting things on pause. I am glad you were able to do the mount without breaking apart the new mirror assembly. That was the hardest part and for sure will save time for anyone else doing it.

I'll share the photos of the mirror install I made for you here as well, in case anyone is interested: Rear view monitor install - Album on Imgur

T-Design; I did buy the washers also but didn't look good either. My camera did need a bit of a lift, so I ended using Sugru to create an angled base for it, and it came out great. I ended up having the camera installed by a shop along with smoked tail lights and new tips because I live in a condo and my HOA won't allow any car work in the parking area. Thank you again for all your help in getting us started with this.

I'll share photos of final look soon.

excellent idea with that moldable glue! Now I know what to do! Collective mind at work... And I really need to fix some wires in my dishwasher too, just like the suggest on sugru's amazon page

Although I do have bumper putty that looks kinda same idea, and 1/10 of a price... will see

It would be really great if you do DIY thread here, instead of off-site. This way it'll stay here forever! It'll be difficult for other people to find it on imgur

Re: in-mirror display for backup camera - thoughts and questions

How is this in the rain and at night ?
I did a backup on my Chevy and it was great HD during day and good weather but took it off as it was too big 7" display to find a location that didn't block my vision or something else and rain/night poor vision. Actual best location was mounted the side window but then you can't open the window. Forgot a number of times and ended up knocking it off.

Re: in-mirror display for backup camera - thoughts and questions

If you talking about picture quality for that camera/mirror combo - it's very good, and good at night too. The only problem is in direct sun in the middle of the day with top down. Then it's difficult to see. But you can always put the roof up, if that happens, and you really need the camera. My biggest concern is when I backup out of the garage, to not run over dog, kids, bikes... And it's 100% great in that situation.

From your first post I see that you installed the Coolint CT-107B camera correct? Can you post a picture of how the camera looks installed into the bumper cover.

I have the same camera and would like to 'see' how it will look.

    Thanks!

Re: in-mirror display for backup camera - thoughts and questions

The only crappy pic I have is here
    http://www.planet-9.com/981-cayman-a...tml#post945256

there is another crappy pic from another member there too.

It looks just like any other camera on any other of my cars. A little bump with lens on it. If you don't look for it - you won't see it.

If you work on installing it on your car - my advice would be to change the angle by 10-15 degrees. Mine is pointed too "into-the-floor". It works fine, but distortion on far objects would be less if up the angle by 10-15. Or go with license plate mounted camera.

Thanks for the link, IMHO always better to see a DIY result for verification, too many time somebodies idea of "just like factory" can be a fair bit off the mark...

I will try and check the view on the cameras before final assembly, and since I already have them, a licence plate mount is not an option, front or back.
