    Porsche Tequipment Aluminum Pedals Installed

I installed Rennline drilled aluminum pedals in my 2006 987 and 2009 987.2, and have been very happy with the look:

This time around I wanted something new so I ordered the Porsche OEM aluminum pedals from Suncoasticon ($445) and just installed them tonight in my 981CS with PDK:

My take on these pedals: well worth the expense. The aluminum plates are thick, solid, and have a very substantial feel. Part of the cost of these pedals is justified by the fact that the you get an entire replacement throttle assembly with this set, not just an aluminum plate (see installation notes below) Installation is more or less plug and play - no drilling required, but you should have a general idea of what you're doing or you will be frustrated. With that I've supplied some installation tips:

Brake pedal: the easiest of the three to install. Just pull the stock cover off and put the new one on over the steel brake pedal. Make sure the rubber sleeve is fully enveloped over the pedal or it may come off while driving.

Dead pedal: removal of the dead pedal in the 981 is different than how it comes off in the 987. There are 5-6 plastic studs behind the pedal that mount into the frame. I found the easiest way to remove it was to carefully slide a flat head screwdriver underneath the dead pedal from the right side at each attachment point and twist. The new pedal simply attaches by pressing in.

Gas pedal: this was the most challenging. First you need to use a T27 Torx screwdriver to unscrew the bolt at the upper left hand corner of the assembly. To remove the assembly, push upward and then pull toward you. There is a single electronic connection to the throttle assembly attached with a CPA lock:

The hardest part was figuring out how the CPA lock worked. What you need to do is push the gray tab downwards toward the end of the connector very firmly and the connector pops out. Attaching the connector to the new assembly requires the same action - align the connector with the socket and push downward on the gray tab until it clicks and pops up. Re-mount the assembly and screw down the T27 Torx bolt and you're done.

All in all the installation took about 30 minutes. It would have been quicker if I knew what to expect in removing the various stock components.

And here's a photo of the removed throttle assembly. You can clearly see the kickdown switch located in the middle of the assembly. The CPA lock connector attaches at the top.

What's cool is that I now have a set of stock pedals that I can attach Rennline drilled pedals to and swap in and out depending on my mood...

I would say it's comparable to the surface of the stock pedals. The raised surfaces on each of the plates are slightly textured and not smooth, so there is some grip there. I'm not worried about slipping on these pedals any more than the OEM ones that came with the car.

Is the throttle pedal positioned any differently from stock? I ask because I need the throttle pedal further out from the floor and more even with the brake pedal to heel & toe effectively.

If it is, I can't really feel a difference. Since the plates are thicker than stock I'm guessing it's slightly higher but only by a few mm at most.

Here is what you need for the ultimate in adjust ability for a heel & toe pedal:
    Rennline (Rev4) - 4PC Pedal Set - Rubber Grip - Porsche-Rennline, Inc.

It's enough to make an MT owner weep with joy - - - and it fits the 981! You can even color coordinate making it even more appealing to many on this board.

Nice. The design of the OEM aluminum pedals works well with the rest of the 981 interior.

    Interpol for info,

I was just wondering the other day after an hr or so of driving if it was possible/easy to remove the left foot "rest" pedal so to speak. I really like to be able to put my left foot out further many times. Did it on all my Miatas/MX5 as they had even less leg room than 981.

Your description for the "dead" pedal PDK removal situation will give me courage to try it with MT set up.

    Rob :-)

The dead pedal is definitely not difficult to remove but be warned, if you take it off and leave it off its pretty ugly underneath. Just bare chassis metal with holes.

Just curious, but does it look like the kickdown switch can be removed or disabled? Some have wished for this, and I'm not crazy about it myself sometimes. Trying to retrain myself not to mash the pedal when I mash the pedal, but...

I don't recommend removing the kickdown switch because the car may end up throwing an error code. I think the last thing Porsche wants is for people to start messing with the throttle electronics.

You could probably wrap some zip ties around the kickdown switch to physically prevent it from engaging when you press the pedal down too far. Simple solution, and 100% reversible.

So the throttle is all electrical? No real mechanical linkage or cable to the carb from the looks of it.
