Which brake pads produce the least dust

Now that we have a few years in....which brake pad produces the least dust for the 981?
I know many say performance is the main concern but since I don't track or drive aggesivly I want a pad with as little dust as possible.
Any suggestions?

Hopefully this applies here. I just installed Akebono European Ceramic pads on my Audi S4 as I got tired of all the brake dust. These pads were recommended by a few people on Planet9, and I have to say they are great. Very little dust compared to the OEM. I know I am not talking about Porsche brakes, but honestly my Audi's brakes dusted nearly as bad as my non PCCB brakes did on a former Boxster S I had owned.

I'd contemplate such an alternative if feel was the same or nearly the same... which I doubt. My other question is if such pads (ceramic) are easier on our rotors, or they'd still wear at the same rate, which is higher than most other rotors. My car only has 6K miles, and even though I've been pretty gentle with the brakes, a lip is starting to form. The Boxster GTS I just bought for my brother has identical mileage, and rotors are noticeably more worn than mine. Brake feel and performance is fantastic, so unless a ceramic pad retains that feel, even if the rotors wear the same, I'll leave them alone and live with the dust. That's why I wanted black wheels on the inside, and that's exactly what I got (turbo polished wheels painted black), so not a huge deal to me. But dust still makes a mess, and would like it diminished. I used Carbotech on a new Vette, and won't use them again. Will follow this thread for other suggestions and testimonials from actual owners, since brake feel and initial bite is very important to me. Making less dust is secondary to that in my case, so probably a different priority than yours. Good luck.

Re: Which brake pads produce the least dust

It is still to early for me to comment on rotor wear of the Akebono pads on my Audi, but the break feel is a little more numb, and more brake pedal pressure is required. However, these were good trade offs for me given how I drive the car. Again, not Porsche specific feedback.

Re: Which brake pads produce the least dust

The problem is availability. As brakes get larger (along with wheels) there seems to be less options for a particular model. On my GT4 there are the OEM Pagids, the PFCs and the Ferodos. That's it. All are racing-type pads so they all generate buckets of black dust. There's no ceramic, or otherwise "white dust" producing pad option. I have had low dust pads on my 987 which worked great and kept the wheels a lot cleaner than OEM, (Textars are really dirty pads.) But I wonder what, if any, low dust pad options there are for 981s -- I suspect few, if any.
Good luck!

Re: Which brake pads produce the least dust

Carbo tech isn't available for the 981 either. I've searched for a low dust street pad ever since I got my CGTS and I'm still looking.
According to the carbotech website they do offer pads in 981S sizes:
FRSport.com: Carbotech 1521 Front Brake Pads Porsche Boxster S - 981 2013-2014

How about the pagid sport pads, 4-2 or 4-4? My RS29 pads don't leave a lot of dust--I leave them in all the time--but I wouldn't call them dust-free.

Re: Which brake pads produce the least dust

Sorry, I just noticed that Akebono does not make a pad for the 981. The only late model Porsche they list on their website is Macan. Powerstop shows they make Ceramic pads for the 981.

Re: Which brake pads produce the least dust

for 290$ for a full set is not cheap.
Check Ferrodo - they do make pads for our cars.
I've used few sets of DS2500 - they've costed a bit more than EBC but those are for hard driving and there is a lower/cheaper model.
Check reviews how it is from a dust point of few.
DS2500 were dusting but a lower model may be much better - so check it.

Re: Which brake pads produce the least dust

I cared about brake dust until I discovered Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner. My satin black HREs show every bit of dust but I just soak the wheels with Sonax before each wash and ALL the dust comes off. For me, easier than figuring out replacement pads/rotors.

A friend let me use his, and the exhaust smelled like crap for weeks, so never used it again. With the cats right there, it's impossible to not spray them. Maybe if you wash the car cold, but I can't do that on my cul-de-sac. So have to drive it to a carwash. But yes, it removed everything. I was concerned about also removing the finish, like it happened in the past with another product I don't remember, but that wasn't the case. I just heavily spray the wheels inside with high pressure, and manually clean the wheels on the inside every once in a while (my wleels are black inside, so can get away with that). That way they never have too much crap accumulated.

Re: Which brake pads produce the least dust

I put some Axxis Ceramic pads from buybrake.com on my 987. They have padded backs on them so I just ditched the shims. Quiet, seem to brake just fine as a daily driver. Little to no brake dust. Price is right.
