Congrats, enjoy, nice wheels and color. It seems low miles was more important then options for you? Looks like it doesn't have PASM, Sport Plus, Sport Exhaust, Sport Chrono or cooled seats. The dealer should be able to provide you with the build sheet and original MSRP, should be around $70K when it was sold 3 years ago.
I'm assuming for $59K this is a CPO with extended warranty?

Low miles was important to me, only because I know the risk of going with higher mileage ones. Depending on owner and so forth, but this was just stood out to me because of it's extremely low miles. The dealer wasn't a Porsche one, so it wasn't CPO and no extended warranty. I can purchase one from a third-party for $3400, 5-year 100,000 miles. But I have been reading that extended warranties through third-parties aren't always the best option, nor will I use that $3400 worth of repairs that I'll pay the premium on. I am still debating on that though.

The dealer didn't have a build sheet or the original window sticker. I looked around and my parameters were, 6spd, red, low miles, S, below $60k. I wasn't too concerned about the options, and definitely wasn't thinking about CPO and warranty. I saw this one and jumped on it because how many 1710 miles Cayman S, in the color that I wanted, are available? Then again, I could have just bought one in a different color and wrapped it red, but something about original paint just got to me.

I do slightly kick myself in the butt for not going with a CPO one, and possibly one with more options. Just trying to stay positive now!

Good deal! 981, S, MT - all good choices too! Enjoy and welcome to the club

NSX is a sweet car, but at this point in time, it's more of a curiosity than practical choice, I guess :)

PS: you need to change those sidemarkers for clear!

Thank You!

The low mileage is what got me. I found some CPO ones with relatively low miles, but they didn't have any extra options. I found some with extra options, but higher mileage (around 25-35k) and they all weren't the color that I wanted.

It's entirely too late for me now! Just hope that nothing breaks while I own it!

Good luck and enjoy. Nothing is more fun than a Porsche with a manual trans.

If you want to see how the car is optioned use the Vin Decoder - just type your vin in and you'll get a print out similar to this. Tells you exactly what options the car came with as well as the original MSRP.

https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/check-lookup/WPOAB2A88GK186190

IMHO it's worth getting a CPO - ask the dealer if they will CPO and pay the additional cost or split it with the dealer.

More importantly you want to see a DME Report for the car along with an " Over Rev Report ". Do a search for " DME or Over Revs ".

If that car was over revved it could cause you some issues in the future.

I'm not trying to freak you out but when I bought my CGTS I wanted a fun " toy " to bring me pleasure and not a potential problem car.

Thank You for this information, it is truly helpful!

I ran the VIN Decoder, the car indeed didn't come packaged with any of the options other people are mentioning.

The dealer isn't a Porsche one, so would they be able to get it CPO through the nearest Porsche dealership? They offered me a third-party warranty through Red Auto Protection. They have an A+ with BBB, but I am wary of extended warranties with third-parties.

I don't know if that was a good deal or not, but did that fire extinguisher tickle your spidey senses at all? Did you stop to consider that fire extinguisher (along with the stripped down build) might be a clue as to how those 1710 miles were accumulated. Text Font Line Screenshot Parallel

This reminds me of a Corvette ad that appeared in AutoWeek many decades ago. It went something like this. 427ci Corvette with very low miles. Driven only on Sundays a 1/4 mile at a time ;)

You DO have some options. From the crappy pictures, you at least have sport+ seats (all leather), and sport tailpipes (chromed). Can't see if you have heated seats, which could mean the convenience or premium package. But yes, for Porsche standards, a stripper. Believe it or not, such few miles is not desirable on a 3+ yr-old car. Hopefully it wasn't dumped because of a problem. You need to drive the crap out of it before the warranty expires. And why not drive it home with a temporary tag, like all of us do? Having to register it before taking it home is crazy. First time I hear that. At any rate, good luck.

Way to burst the newbies bubble guys...

OP looks to be in Kalifornia and has to register the car before going off the lot.

Remember the 981 is very reliable. Do not spend the $$ for some 3rd party warranty(insurance policy really). My Boxster has over 40k on it, mostly highway and 0 track--only routine maintenance, 2 sets rear tires and just put on 4 new Michelins and original brakes w/over 50% left.
Drive your car and enjoy--stop worrying.

Exactly, I bought my 13 981 with 38K on it with CPO and didn't think twice, should go to 150K.

Can't see the original post and it doesn't matter. Enjoy your car!

You may have paid a bit too much, but on the upside, you bought one of the few sports cars that will stand up to being thrashed at the track and respond by begging for more.

Ask the guys with the IMS failures if they're glad they left their car parked all the time. The ones that regularly get good workouts are the ones that are still on the road.

Thank you to everyone for the help. I definitely was able to back away from the purchase (other factors came into play, not just you guys, but the advice definitely helped!). I am taking my time now to find the right one.

Couple of options and I am also considering a base Cayman, as well.

Base Cayman

Cayman S
https://porschelarchmont.com/invent...New+York+2014+Rhodium+Silver+Metallic+1135105

Both are CPO, Cayman S has more miles while the Base has less. Of course, the S seems packaged with a lot of options that make it almost like a GTS (besides the obvious cosmetic stuff). So value and price wise, I am thinking the S here is the better deal, but I'm a newb at this so please let me know!

#36 ·
I would stick to S model's since you can afford one and don't want to regret it later. As for the S, if you are okay with Silver maybe they can get the price down a tad more. Be patient and the right car will come along.

That S is perfect - almost :)

Look, before you do anything, is it possible for you to go to a relatively large dealership and ask them to drive S with and without PSE? Yes, it (PSE) is for children who never grew up and who used to put playing card held by clothespin into bicycle spokes, yes. So is Porsche (for kids who never grew up). Do yourself a favor and, since you successfully reset the previous purchase, try to see if PSE extracts enough grins to be worth it. Otherwise, that S in silver has everything I would need. PASM, PVT, Sport design steering wheel.

I drove one without PSE. I am sure having it is better than not. The silver one comes with PSE, according to the site. I am ok with silver, I can always wrap it red if need be. Definitely want the GTS front bumper though.

You are no help. You need to turn in your Car Counselor certificates.

Agreed, let's get this back on track and help the OP evaluate the 2 cars he listed.

I'm voting for the the 2014 Rhodium Silver CS based on several reasons:

It's a manual, has PTV, PSE, PASM and sport design steering wheel and it's a CPO car.

It also looks like it may have been an enthusiasts car as there's several little upgrades - Steering wheel " marker ", tinted windows, looks like it was de-badged, pedals in Aluminum, wheels appear to be a satin finish ( hides that nasty brake dust ).

*** Question on the wheels - the original build sheet says " Sport Technos " the ones shown look like Carrera S to me - not sure if it makes a difference but I'd ask .

The mileage seems reasonable for a car that was put in service July of 2013.

It was a 1 owner car.

Price wise it seems to be reflective of the market based on mileage as well as CPO status.

I would like to see the service records and the CarFax as well.

So now that I've put it out there let's here some comments on whether this is the car for the OP and if I missed anything or made any errors let me know.

Getting the service record will be a must for me. I have looked at both the AutoCheck and CarFax, everything seems to be in order.

I have inquired as to why they list the wheels as "Sport Techno" when it is really Carrera S wheels.

Overall, it seems like this car is a no-brainer. The options, CPO, and price make it seem worth it. Then again, I am waiting on someone to chime in and tell me it's not a good deal and I should hold out!!!!

So now you're getting in to a territory where people will disagree on what options you "must" have, vs those that are merely desirable. For me, I'd pass on the posted 981CS because it doesn't have InfoTainment (navigation, bluetooth audio, cool map in gauge cluster) and it also doesn't have Sports Chrono (there are dozens of threads here discussing whether Sports Chrono is worth it for 6MT's). I also wanted less than 20k miles, but you may not care as much.

These are ultimately personal decisions that you should decide for yourself. As for the pricing, that car is middle of the road. Not the worst deal, but certainly not the best. As I mentioned in my PM, many of us who bought used 981's shopped for many many months before pulling the trigger. You're making a pretty significant investment, so pace yourself and enjoy the search! It can be exhausting and heartbreaking, but I am so glad that I waited and got all of the things I wanted.

(that said, I desperately wish now that I had gotten ParkAssist. Can't win 'em all.)

"I'm not trying to s*** on your purchase. Truly. .... But for what you spent, you could get much much more (I know, because it's what I spent)."
WOW...I hate posts like this...so passive/aggressive.
OP got want he wanted, he's happy...let him ENJOY.
Or do some 'deal vultures' just thrive on letting everyone know they 'presumably' got a better deal than someone else...really?

#57 ·
Lol except that OP didn't get what he wanted and subsequently backed out of his deal. Now we're helping him find what he does want. I don't give a **** whether I got a better deal than some stranger on the boards -- I care that new members are getting exactly the car they want. For what it's worth, I didn't get a good deal on my 981.

And I'm not passive aggressive. I'm just aggressive aggressive.

I think the 350Z's overall shape is better, but the details on the 370Z (headlights, door handles, etc) are better. The 370Z is also a much more serious performer than the 350. Sort of like 981 vs 987, the interior of the 987 just looks too old fashioned to me, but the 370 got the interior upgrades and the performance.

After driving a 370Z daily for seven years (sport+touring auto) it's a great car but a bit too much like an Asian Mustang for me to be long term satisfied with it.
