Re: What did you do to your 981 today?

just had IPD plenum & 82mm competition throttle body installed on my 16' CGTS. Middle of winter here in Chicago so only short drive home and car put back into hibernation. Quick impression definitely pulled harder above 4K RPM but really need to get some miles on so the ECU can re-learn before any full review. Stay tuned.

Re: What did you do to your 981 today?

With the first sunny/dry day in a long time, I parked the RX330 and took the 981 to work over Highway 17. Bliss.

I must confess I passed a feisty Range Rover Sport or something on a harrowing curve at irresponsible speed.

I promise never to do it again.

Still light out... I think it's time to drive home... what was it that I promised again? I forget.

Filled, primed and put the color on a small scrape I put in my bumper. Tomorrow I put on the final color and Sunday is the clear coat.

I always knew that my Boxster GTS moved, but found out last night that she can really fly!

Finally bought a lift, it is going to be great for all of the things I have planned for the BGTS, not the least of which will be swapping back the summer wheel/tire combo when the weather warms up!

Added a Covercraft sun shade and Das Schild lid liner (both perfect fits). Also received the front trunk liner from Suncoasticon but it arrived damaged so I did not install it. But it too looks like it will fit perfectly and certainly add utilitarian value.

Washed, compounded, polished, then applied OptiCoat. I think I messed up the Opticoat on the hood, so I need to re-polish this weekend and re-apply. All in all...took me 10 hours to do all of that. And my back is broken.

    Cool! (Hope your back heals.)

Let us know how the opticoat does with water spots and bird droppings. I'm currently using Zaino and am wondering if putting cquartz or opticoat will help me with those issues, as my CS is a daily driver.

Yeah my CS is my DD as well, with a dusty 4Runner beater in the garage for when there's ice on the ground (once a year in Dallas).

Will report back with my OptiCoat experience. So far, it wasn't as easy to apply as everyone said. Although I did it in a garage that isn't super well lit, so that was part of the problem. I didn't buff with a MF towel as I went along, as I've now read is good practice...

Thanks for the heads up but I kept the top up while parked. What did you do to your 981 today?

I checked the car when I got back from hiking and it was clean - no sap, bird droppings or pine needles.

He was referring to being a royal PITA to remove sap from the top.

Hey, an unrelated question to you (or any other Boxster owner): Just lowered the roof on my brother's car for the first time, to install a Blendmount radar detectoricon mount, and there're gaping holes at both sides of the exposed part of the roof. Is that normal? Don't see anything that could cover them. The pop-out plastic pieces are further ahead, but don't cover that area. Doesn't look horrible, but was surprised to see them. The good news is the roof mechanism is much more simpler than when there's an extra body panel, like on most convertibles. Just wanted to make sure there's not even a manual cover that was missing. Thanks.

Re: What did you do to your 981 today?

Painted my bumper - here's the back story. The car is a daily driver in the city. Bumps have happened and will happen. This is not a garage queen. I have a very narrow garage and I must have touched the driver's side fender on the flat portion around the wheel. I got a 4" gash in the flat. I checked with my regular body shop (there's a phrase I don't particularly like), and he quoted me a reasonable $800.
Living in the city, I figure I'm going to be backed into or hit sometime and have to replace the bumper. I figure if I can do a 10' or even a 5' repair, I'd be okay. If I totally f'ed it up, they could still repair it for the same $800.

I ordered ScratchWizard paint and clear coat from Amazon for $35. While there was a fair amount of anxiety, it turned out well so far. I have to let it dry for three days and polish it out. Right now, it has some orange peel. Also, the directions called for first spraying the clear coat lightly, then come back with a heavier coat. Unfortunately, I got a sag and when I tried sanding it out, I must have sanded through to the base coat so I have a 3/4" x 1 1/2" splotch. Argh!

Oh well, all in all I'm happy until the bumper gets whacked.

I'll take pictures tomorrow, but here is the gouge while I was filling it with glazing.

Here's the final product, but it needs to be polished out this weekend.

The gaps are normal (because the top of the Z-mechanism (when folded) is for the portion of the roof closest to the windshield (the narrowest part of the roof, compared with the wider opening for the rest of the top). There are no covers for the holes.

Thanks a lot for your clarification. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing missing. Looked at a lot of photos, but none pointed to that area, so couldn't tell. Thanks again brother.

Re: What did you do to your 981 today?

This is a very simple straight forward modification that you can do in 10 minutes or so. This is the leather stitched sports chrono pod bezel purchased from Suncoasticon Porsche Parts, but it's made by Exclusive Options and it's available in 15 different colors. The color I purchased is Carmine Red to match the rest of the deviated stitching in my 2016 CGTS (I haven't changed my profile photo, which is my older Cayman S). All you need to complete this project are plastic trim tools, painters tape to protect the leather, and the new part. Just watch the little clips used to secure this part to the dashboard, one of mine was lost somewhere behind the radio. Luckily you have a few extra since they are on both the old and new parts.
