    Drinking coffee in my Boxster

I'm sorry, but as silly as this may sound, I bought my Boxster for fun but would also like to drive it to work at least once or twice a week. I live in NH and commute down to Massachusetts, somewhere near Boston. For folks familiar with this area, you know what that entails. And my commute starts at 4.30 AM so caffeintation is necessary.

Today, I was admiring the beautifully engineered but somewhat inadequate cup holders in the Boxster. The driver's cup holder is positioned right above the passenger's climate control switch. And I was imagining this sequence of events, early groggy morning, a cup of coffee, a bump, a spill, cursing followed by remorse and paranoia. Or has the paranoia already started? I need a third hand to operate the stick, hold my cup of coffee and drive. Drat! Idiotic problem. What to do?

Porsche needs to take that useless tray/extra cig lighter for smokers package (but who needs 3 outlets in a cayman???!!!) and make it a proper cup holder.

You go in a bit earlier than I do, but we probably get out around the same time... I'll keep my eyes open for you! ; )

But be careful about spilling any liquid on the nav unit. Moisture of any kind voids the warranty.

I have tried some of these spill proof mugs. Usually, there is some residual coffee in the rim which dribbles down either on the cup holder or my shirt and seat belt when am driving. Maybe it is time to give up coffee and substitute it with adrenaline during the drive.

Wake your *** up 10 minutes earlier and drink your coffee at home!!

Or better yet...get up at the same time, drink you coffee at home, and make up the 10 minutes by driving faster.

I have a PDK which negates one of your issues, but the wife and I both drink coffee/water in the car and while I agree the cup holders appear marginal, our travel cups stay snug. If you really are stop and go traffic, I think a GOOD travel cup will work for you. And there is NO WAY I could give up my morning coffee.

I could push my wake up time from 4.00 AM to 3.45 which I used to do when I was younger and had a new Audi and wanted to avoid spilling coffee in my new German car. **** man, I am an older dude and need my sleep and a hot beverage during the morning drive. I am sure a Porsche engineer would eye me with disdain.

Being a huge coffee lover I solved this first world problem by stopping occasionally for double espresso shots or small americanos.

There are plenty of sealed containers out there for coffee. Contigo makes a good one. You can find them on amazon or even at Costco for $10.

+1. Contigo makes an excellent product. It's slim enough to fit comfortably and firmly in your hand. I like that it automatically seals when you release the button with your finger. So it is totally one-handed and you never even have to take your eyes off the road. You'll never spill a drop, and the thermal properties are excellent. I've left ice-water in it from the afternoon till the next morning, and there was still lots of ice. Hot coffee stays hot!

Re: Drinking coffee in my Boxster

    Try these...

BMW Cup Holders, Porsche Cup Holders, Ultimate Cup Holder - Cupholders / Drink Holders for BMW 3 5 7 Series, Boxster 911 Z4 Mercedes Audi NSX other fine cars.

They sit in the floorwell, just forward of your seat. Easy slide in/out install/removal.
Out of the way, easy to reach (on either side), no harm if your drink spills (which it hasn't).
I got the two for $50 and find I use the one on the passenger side more often than not.
    I'm very happy with them.
