    1st gear stall sometimes?

Does anyone else stall in first gear starts in traffic - I seem to stall in my Cayman S in 1st more than any car with manual that I have owned in the past?

...I know it's me - but has anyone else experienced this?

Car is perfect - but I just notice a fine window of clutch release that does not slip and does not lunge - been the same for 11000...I was hoping that I would get better...but I keep doing it...HMMM...maybe just getting old...not sure...help here!

The Cayman needs you to put the spurs to it a bit more than you are used to. Don't baby it just use more throttle and you will be fine.
(had a horse like that once and once we got to know each other all was terrific)

I know this might sound weird, but try switching to Sport mode and see if that helps.

I find sport mode makes it harder to take off the line smoothly, but yeah worth a shot if he has it... I used to occassionally kill my 986 Boxster off the line but I think I've done it in the Cayman only once or twice since I've owned it... and always my fault.

I used to stall out all the time, but I finally got it down! Just got to get in some practice. I even used to miss first and go into reverse!! That was no fun, especially after stalling it.

I'm w/Santa Fe. I stalled it couple of times - I think each time when I was just 'going thru the motions' - totally my error. Give a little more and you'll have no problems. These babies want to run!

    Not enough gas

I also stalled a few times iniatially. Try applying pressure more to the upper part of the gas pedal, which is quite tall, to get more leverage.

    Boy do I feel better!

I have stalled my CS more times than I want to admit in just 2k miles. I even stall in reverse. I am now to the point where I am able to quickly feel the stall coming and just apply more accelerator. But sometimes, it seems like (I am sure to by standers) that you are over revving. I prefer over revving to re-starting the engine in front of everyone.

I often stalled my Boxster when leaving stoplights, and it was embarrassing at times. I find the takeup on the Cayman (5-speed) to be much smoother. The reverse situation, with the Boxster: I'd get more clutch than I wanted, and rocket away from the light. I think that the Cayman is smoother all the way around. 987f

I was sitting at a stop light talking to a guy in a Lotus Exige about our cars and as the other light turned yellow, he said Ok, lets get outta here!. He took off like a bat outta hell, and I stalled the car.
One of my most embarrassing moments, and Ive had some doozies.

    No stall here

Hate to say it, but it must be you. With 650 miles on the clock I haven't stalled the Croc yet. But then I've driven stick all of my life. Will admit the CS has a different clutch feel. As soon as it starts to grab, give it some gas. It's just a matter of time to get the feel.

I've stalled my 5-speed twice while in reverse--both times I felt it shouldn't have stalled. This occured with the car fully warm; when cold I've had no near misses.

Laughed out loud when I read this! Mostly, because of shared pain...

My wife and I had just picked up our new baby, and were filling up at a gas station. Everyone was looking at the new car, and sure enough, "cough" stall, red-faced... eh, it happens. Especially when it's new and you're nervous...
