I had narrowed down the color to Carrara White. This is such a beautiful and classy color on a Cayman S. It is classy and not too flashy. I took my wife to the dealer and she fell in love with a Guards Red and thought the White was okay, but her eyes went wide and bright at the GR. This is a no-no since red=flashiness; I didn't want all the attention associated with a red car. However, the more I look at GR, the better it looks and it really is a strikingly beautiful color. Maybe I'll reconsider.
So, all you GR owners out there, would you choose this color again? Why or why not? Those who don't own GR are also welcome to chip in your opinion.
I came down to the same decision a few months ago, choosing between red and white. Ultimately I went with white, then wanted to change my mind to red. So if I were you? Get the red, it's a porsche, may as well be flashy
Like you, my wife said she hates the guards red because of its flashiness. Personally, I don't mind flashy, but what I do love is that it goes so well with black/gunmetal wheels and tinted windows (not a good reason to pick the color but for me it just turned out that way).
Now, if I were to keep the car stock, I'd probably go with something like Arctic Silver. In the end, it's all about personal preference but if your wife likes the color and you can see yourself liking it too, you can't go wrong.
Just my .02
I took me five hours to make up my mind between GR and Black. The GR just kept haunting me. Great color and in the right light has that hint of orange.
I'd do again

I like silver because it brings out the fine lines of the car best, my wife likes Red, because she has that type of personality But I think the GR paint hides some of the fine lines of the car, and instead you see one big red shape.
I live in Florida, we have too many big SUV's and big trucks, and old people (not to mention people talking on cell phones). I think a red car really stands out in traffic better then a silver, grey, black... which can blend into the pavement. I'm more worried about some other diver pulling out in front of me, so I'm going to go with a bright color to do all I can to make the small car more visible.

I would not change the GR on my Boxster. It's great being able to see the bright red fenders while driving. It is also easier for other cars to see and therefore a bit safer. Bright colours also hide the dirt more. Yes it gets a lot of looks but you need to get used to that driving a Porsche.
Having said that, I do think white (and yellow) looks better on the Cayman. Just a personal preference... And don't think you can be anonomous driving such a beautiful car as a Cayman, whether white, red, yellow or even grey.
If you can't make up your mind, keep the wife happy and get red.

For me I went from a 2007 CS guards red to a 2009 white....Red cars, particularly sports cars attract the attention of the police....and I would prefer to be under the radar....so to speak
It is the only color I considered and I would do it again!
I've never had the guts to go red on any of my past/current cars due to the flashiness---but when I get a CS I'm going guards red because I finally decided to ignore my past anxiety w/ the color; also, my wife loves the red so it's a win/win situation!

I have guards red CS and love it! Also had a guards red 911 a while ago and really miss the car especially with its sandbeige leather interior!
Only two colors for a Porsche: Red or Silver!
Uh well however, this is only my wife's opinion.
2009 2.9L Guards Red Cayman: 18" S wheels + SC + PSM + PDK. Added: FVD exhaust,

It's a sports car, it should be a bright color!
I Did. 2nd GR Porsche. 993TT & Cayman S.
Love the color. Black is too hard to maintain, WHite looks fantastic but looses the depth of shine. Grey is overdone (IMO - although I love it); Silver very practicle but after having a few silver cars, the color does nothing for me.
Red - just looks good to me for this car. Photos poorly though and shows chips easily (as any dark car). But still love it..
We went with the Guards Red and love it, shine that sucker up and it just glows. The first mod though was a Passport 9500ix.

I have a Boxster S in Guards Red and it looks fantastic!! But I did get my first ticket in 7 years in this car - it does attract the cops!! Personally I think the best color for the Cayman and the 911 is Arctic Silver.

2009 Boxster S, Guards Red/Black, FVD Muffler
in the same situation as the OP. My wife loved the GRed but agreed that the boxster already had a bit of a rep as a girlie car so we settled for the carrara white.. I think it actually looks quite brilliant in GRed. I just think white is a more racy , ahem, manly colour..
FYI white is a loud and bling colour as well. sometimes even more so than G Red.
