Mercedes SLK55 AMG Vs Cayman S

Today a Mercedes SLK55 AMG tried to take on the Cayman S.

    Challenger:
SLK55 AMG, a V8 with 265KW, 510NM Torque, 0-100kph spec of 4.8sec with one passenger wearing a racing(?) cap and jolly look on face.
    Me:
Cayman S + Full Milltek system and EVO high flow filter with 2 passengers and a 100% fresh full tank of fuel only 15 minutes old.

Winner: Cayman S by 3 car lengths.
Kinda expected more from the SLK but there you go.

Well, the SLK55 produces about 355hp@ 6K, and the chipped CS, with intake and full exhaust has got to be close enough to make a race of it.
Even so, my money would be on a well driven AMG, so you had a very good run.

hmm... SLK55 is automatic, not "well driven" and "well driven" driver should do pretty much the same.

I'm not so sure. What's the curb weight of a SLK55 AMG? The HP advantage of the MB could easily be offset by the lower weight of the CS. Moreover, the torque curve and gearing are more important than HP IMO.

The slk weighs in around 3300 pounds and the times provided are in the 4.5-4.9 range. Forget hp, forget weight, torque's the thing. They have so much, it's hard getting power to the road. I think for a lot of drivers, it's what stops them from getting good times.

Its was definitely an SLK55 AMG. Maybe the Auto transmission is just rather lossy in that model.
In any case, what could you do to not drive it well when its an auto?

Also consider that I had more weight than normal and did not really even try to do a power launch. Just a casual power down after the clutch was fully engaged. Got a small rear wheel break loose changing from first to second however. I conclude CS is a good match for the SLK. If the CS was 100 % stock it may be pretty even.
    Cayman S... gotta love it!

    Say no more,
    the Croc's awesome,
well droven or not, hp or not..
Transmission? So what it was manual or auto?....

Remember it's not all about Hp.
Do not underestimate the cayman's balance.

Buut also the drivers are a primary factor on this matters as well...
Anyways, I stand by the all-mighty Croc hahah..

I ADORE Porsches and our beloved Cayman S,ordering one this week

BUT my dad has a SLK55 AMG and older brother a brand new Porsche 997 Turbo,i had a brand new Cayman S for a test drive over 3 nights (nice dealer huh) and the Cayman S is amazing! love it...my Dad and bro have extensive track days and they all had a good test of the car,few hours,to give me feedback.

The SLK55 AMG kills the Cayman S in a straight line IF you know how to use the 7 speed paddle shift gearbox correctly (extremely easy)Also it has so much torque you need to know how to launch it to avoid spinning your wheels and laying rubber on the spot! extremely funny the first few times dad let me drive it

Around corners the Cayman S kills the SLK55 AMG ! i drove the same route in both cars timing them, lots of twisties and the Cayman was considerably faster

My brothers 997 Turbo is just insane and you really can't stop laughing like a maniac whilst driving, and yes it indeed kills the Cayman and SLK55 AMG 3 times over

My fave of the 3 tho is the Cayman S hands down and i'm loyal to it,can't wait for delivery

With my friends SL55 amg wich has like 500 hp supercharged, we launch pretty much even, but then after 120 Km or so, I am in his rear view mirror all the way up to 250 Km/hr. After that is all Cayman S territory

    TY:
Oh that's interesting, but then again my CS is not stock anymore. Its the same as K-MAN S' engine except I don't have the chip mod.

Id like a ride in a Turbo one day that's for sure .
I prefer the look of the CS than those models.
Good luck with the purchase, I bet your anxious as heck!!

Tell me about it. That Turbo is just ridiculus. Yesterday we had a nice GUMBALL with a stage 2 EVO IX, a SL55amg, a Carrera S tip, the allmighty Turbo, and my Cayman S. The Carrera S and my croc where the slowest of all What a day, Ill try to post more info when I have the time

That probably means nothing since he's limited to 155 mph most likely ... so I'm guessing with a chip or having the speed limiter removed, you will stay in his rear view mirror

Er ok, correct, 1 passenger and one driver. Unless we consider the tank of fuel a passenger as well as it weighs about the same!

    Absolutely

Straight line 0-60 the AMG did pretty good against a 997 turbo, I was impressed. Of course the turbo is quicker, I say in a 1/4 mile, easily 2-3 cars lead.

OH! oops i didn't realize you had the Full Milltek system and EVO high flow filter on your car,hmm i think the passenger and full tank of gas slowed you down a bit as well, with your mods and maybe the chip the Cayman S and SLK55 AMG should be neck and neck

On the corners thought the SLK steering is a bit scary as it has that big V8 in the front and it's a relatively small car,in the wet i tend not to ask dad for the keys to borrow as it will spin it's wheels at every stop light unless you are really really gentle and know hot to handle it!

I prefer the look of the Cayman S too! its just...damn!! i'm not sure i like the updated rear lights that are coming soonish though, look kinda like cats eyes making the car look feminine and a lil "non-German",i'm talking only about the lights guys not the entire car...it's just perfect in it's current form!
