    The Heigo roll bar was shipped friday. I plan to install it next week. I got a photo from Heigo of the final production finished unit.

    Also for those that don't know, Heigo builds all roll bars for Porsche Motorsports. Therefore I have to believe that it is a sound design. I talked to HANS and they say that the harness bar in the rear is not a problem. In fact, I was told that in Europe harness bars are normally at the back. Regardless my plan is to either keep my TC Design bar.

    Yeah, I've not received mine yet, but plan to get it installed as soon as it comes in. Mine was ordered through Ruf, so they'll hear before me.

    Finally installed

    My Heigo roll bar arrived and was installed. It is an awesome bar. Very good fit. Very strong. It bolt-in perfectly into the Cayman. I chose the Y braced model, an X braced model is also available. You can also chose to delete the rear strut brace/harness bar. Since Heigo is the supplier for Porsche Motorsport Roll bars, everything as good, as you would expect.

    Its a full day job to install. Most of the time is removing plastic trim panels in the car, removing the seats and then putting all the trim panels all back together. You do have to cut a slot into the plastic strut covers. If you are going to get coilovers or lowering springs, I would do the harness bar at the same time. Since all the same plastic panels have to be removed.

    Heigo designed the bar to accommodate harnesses at the rear strut brace, this is a typical european racing configuration. Since it is more than 8" from the seat, HANS recommends crossing the harnesses. But since I already had a TC design harness bar in the car, I decided to leave it.

    Thanks for the post - some questions:

    1. Did you modify (make the cutouts) in the strut tower covers yourself?

    2. I assume for removal you can leave the strut tower attachment in place and just remove the bars?

    3. Did you have to remove your seats to get it in?

    4.How much does it weigh?

    Answers

    1. Did you modify (make the cutouts) in the strut tower covers yourself?
    The cutout are easy enough to make, just saw into the plastic. We made them an L shape to keep the holes smaller.

    2. I assume for removal you can leave the strut tower attachment in place and just remove the bars?
    The strut attachments can stay in place, if you remove the bar or the strut brace. It would not be practical to take the bar in and out. Because you still have to remove the seats. But the bar is such a good fit, I don't think you would have any reason to remove it.

    3. Did you have to remove your seats to get it in?
    You have to remove the seats completely to get the bar in or out.

    4.How much does it weigh?
    I did not weight it. OOPS. the shipping invoice was 100# including the cardboard and pallet.

    The bar looks great. I'm looking for the additional security myself, if your at ECR in March I hope to take a look.

    A couple of questions...

    It looks like the lower bolt-in for the bar uses the stock seat belt mounting point? If this is the case where did you reattach the seatbelt lower mounting point to, I see you retained the stock belt. With my GT3 seats and harness I used the stock mounting point for both my harness and stock belt, what's your arrangement?

    It looks like the bar doesn't affect the rear speakers?

    I can't make it to ECR in March. But Objectuser installed a Heigo too and he should be at ECR in the yellow Cayman.

    The front hoop does attach to the lower seat belt tower. You just take out the old lower mounting bolts, line up the roll bar and insert the new lower bolts and spacers and torque it into place using the factory torque setting for that bolt. Seat belts are not affected.

    I already had the TC Design harness bar in the car, that attaches to the upper seat belt tower. I decided to leave it in place, for now. That is where my harnesses and my SV-Tek camera mount is located.

    In the rear, you do have to remove the plastic cover over the strut towers. Those covers also contain the rear speakers. You could leave that plastic cover out, or you can make a cutout and reinstall the covers, like I did.

    I went back to the FVD site and there is no longer a listing for the roll bar...have they stoped selling it?
    lastly, if you don't mind me asking, how much did the rollbar run you?

    I ordered from FVD in Dec. 07 just got it last week and NGT Motorsports in Miami installed it. It looks like a factory option, perfect fit. Can't wait for the next track event in April with NASA at Homestead Speedway.

    Thanks for sharing the gallery with us (love the picture with the dog looking in ). I was wondering what the Heigo rollbar with an X-brace looked like, since they don't show one on their website.

    I'm thinking it would be relatively easy to take the X-brace and rear harness bar out for the street (just leave the main hoop and side braces) so that you still have pretty good use of the trunk and engine access - is that correct?

    Engine access

    I took the Cayman in to top off the power steering fluid and the mechanic said it was not a big deal. The engine cover comes off easy and just had to be worked out from under the cross braces instead of lifting right out.

    My dog Enzzo likes the fit of the bar but prefers riding in the F-150.

    glenn/Alejo,

    Does it intrude on the ability of the seat to go back/sit flush with the firewall. Looks like you both have GT3's and/or stock seats. Any issues there?

    I just heard back from FVD, the cross brace unscrews to access the engine and get back your luggage space, more important they said the bar only weighs 59 lbs.

    See pic #4 in post 23 above.

    We have just installed this roll bar in our CS (2006) and are trying to figure out the best way to bolt in the lap belt harness. We have the B-K R9003 hardware which just fits in the recess shown in the above pic, about 15 degrees forward, and does not have room to move at all.

    If I clip the belt hardware to that B-K piece it sticks straight out into the car, and the clip seems to be strained and like it might not properly clear the seat if pushed back. So we're looking for an option that would pass tech for DE use.

    One thought is to just use a very strong carabiner on the B-K piece and then clip the belt to that. Would appreciate any suggestions, especially from those who have installed this roll bar.

    We found the answer on the harness connections. Derek at HMS Motorsports (HMS Motorsport) had the hardware to do this - basically a piece Schroth sells on some of their belts that can be bent and twisted without losing strength. One end is bolted on at the lower seatbelt mount (which is also the bolt-in for the bottom of the Heigo roll bar), and the other end is bent and given a half-twist so the lap belt can clip into it. Simple, easy to do and inexpensive.
