Any Valentine 1 mirror mount solutions?

Have done a search but I have not found a decent mounting solution for the V1. My V1 suction cups do not hold well on the windshield, and invariably, dislodges during driving. Very frustrating.

There are several mirror mounts listed, but has anyone successfully mounted their V1 using any of these systems? I have a 2008 Cayman with the mirror with the auto dimming option.

Country Joy Crafts have several mounts, but in their list of cars, there is no clear listing for a Porsche Cayman with the auto dimmer.

The 5/8 Mini and the Super adjustable Z mount lists the Porsche Boxster 2008 special edition, the Porsche Cayman S 2007 with electrochromic mirror. I venture to guess that the electrochromic mirror is the auto dim, but is there anyone on this forum that has mounted a country joy mount on their Cayman?

There is an interesting mount that had a discussion on 6speedonline, the G bracket:

    Valentine One / G Bracket Install - 6speedonline.com Forums
The forum posting indicates that this mount should be compatible with the Cayman.

Has anyone tried and successfully installed any of the above products onto their Cayman/Boxster, with the auto dim stalk?

The Blendmount does not seem compatible with our Caymans.

I can pretty much guarantee you the Country Joy mount won't work either, it's almost identical to the ones from blendmount. [ I have both for other cars ]

There's a good chance the G bracket will work. I'd give them a call.

Re: Any Valentine 1 mirror mount solutions?

Several years ago I wrote an article for this site on mounting and hard-wiring the V1 in the Cayman. It is probably still available by searching. Bottom line for mounting - I used the visor mount that comes with the unit. You flatten the spring clip somewhat in a vice (carefully), and clip the mount to the forward edge of the headliner, up near the mirror. It is unobtrusive and has never come loose.

Not to sound ... , but I've had my same v1 for at least 18 yrs. It has never come loose during, shall we say, spirited driving on the road. Heck even roads like Deals Gap have fail to shake it loose. But I do replace the suction cups about once a year. Get them from Valentine.

This V1 get moved to my Porsche, my Cobra, my Honda, my Ducati and every rental car..

I will say that the superZ looks much nicer than the suction cup mount.

Let us know what you find.

Re: Any Valentine 1 mirror mount solutions?

I agree with changing the mounts yearly. I think they have a larger suction cup than in the past.

And the reason for being obsolute is ? Will it be a Valentine product? I was talking with Mike Sunday and he didn't say anything about a new product.

I think I remember reading somewhere that V1's patent for the front and rear indicator arrows expires this year. I'm sure all the big players (escorticon) have some crazy stuff waiting in the wings if this is the case.

I hard wired my V1 based on instruction located some where in here. I use suction cups at the right of the mirror and may have one of the suction cups get loose every couple months or so. Mainly if the car sits in the sun. There has been some discusion on the display in the mirror but, you still need to mount the dector somewhere with front and back clear view.

Keep an eye on the Planet-9 Newsletter coming out tomorrow for more details, and why do old outdated arrows if you can do something better? I've seen it, it's cool, and in time will only get even better. I think you'll see it become the "iphone" of radaricon detectors in that there will be a developer community behind it, custom add-ons and features, etc. Makes you wonder why someone didn't think of it sooner, but cool stuff, certainly the High IQ types will get it!

Re: Any Valentine 1 mirror mount solutions?

An extremely low tech solution to the suction cup mouints coming loose. Wet them slightly before install. A bit of rubber friendly silicone grease would likely be permenent.

I'm sure changing the suction cups makes a big difference. The rubber would get harder and less pliable as it ages. Especially left in the sun. Just like tires, weatherstripping etc.

I've been wondering if/when Valentine would be doing something. They've been resting on their laurels for a bit long. Unfortunately mine went deaf a few months back and I had to send it in. Oh well.

Re: Any Valentine 1 mirror mount solutions?

    Thanks for the replies.

I am anxiously awaiting tomorrow's news on an upgraded V1? What is the V1 missing? GPS positioning. Laser shifters! We shall see. However, I already have the 9500ciicon with laser shifters installed, and I use the V1 as a piggyback for the positional awareness of the arrows.

Contacted G-rides about their bracket mount for the V1. However, he indicated that the install on the Cayman auto-dim mirror was situated too low. So, he is looking into developing one for the Cayman, but no time frame setup.

V1's will never be outdated, they are the ONLY detectoricon you can send back in to be updated, and those prices are but a fraction of the cost. Way better deal than the disposa-detectors the rest sell. The factory will fix them pretty cheap too.

Wrong...the Escort 9500ixicon can be sent in to Escort to be updated as well (in fact, there is currently an upgrade program for older model 9500s to add the TSR feature), also for a "fraction of the cost" of a new detector. As for being a "disposa-detector"...well, it's obvious you have never used any of Escort's higher-end units. Additionally, Escort offers a trade-in program. Can't say that about Valentine.

Valentine has been sitting on its laurels for way too long. Their units are ugly and false way too much. I would much rather have a detector that when it beeps, I KNOW it's a signal that should be dealt with.

Re: Any Valentine 1 mirror mount solutions?

Maybe I should have set next week ALL current radar detectors are obsolete. There does that make the V1 fans feel better?

Seriously though, some good stuff coming and I hope to get even more details (I've put in some tech questions to the engineers to get compatibility details, etc.) My only concern is whether or not it has enough memory to keep track of everything is can keep track of!

As for upgrades, I had my 9500i upgraded to the 9500ixicon, simple, painless, and a lot less expensive than buying a new detector... Escort makes good stuff and continues to innovate, they apply some real IQ to the problem of radar detection...

blendmount for porsche works the best. I have one and it is rock solid and beautiful in appearance. Pricey but worth it. (the model I have will not work with a porsche auto dim mirror)

I don't remember if it was clear Gorilla glue or some clear stuff used for aquariums that worked for me on the suction cups. I went through a couple of clear silicons, caulkings and glues that didn't hold because of the heat or wouldn't stick to the suction cups. When I sold the car I used a razor blade to clean the glass.

On the Cayman I just use the visor clip. The V1 isn't that exposed and visible for break-ins.

Everyone has to know the "newest and bestest" detectoricon has to be some Escort since they are a sponsor.

Tach, it has nothing to do with them being a sponsor, if I saw from Valentine what I saw from Escort I would be praising Valentine for getting off their arses and making some advancements, once you see the new Escort product you'll see they are continuing to make advances, which I think is a good thing for us the consumer.
