Is it just my car? When I try to ck the oil level sometimes the guage tells me that it will take 15 minutes or more! 3 or 4 minutes is typical for my car and it then counts down. Do I have a bug?
Normal. Porsche calculated the time needed for the oil to drain back into the engine when it is hot. Check it first thing before you start up and you will have a very short wait.
Greg - Yup... what Santa Fe said. The oiling system is quite intricate in your motor, so the oil doesn't drain back into the pan (Porsche calls it an "integrated dry sump") as quickly as on other cars.
Santa Fe, beez. Thanks.
Glad to know I dont have a problem.... but, if I were at the track and wanted to monitor levels after each run, wouldnt that be a pain???
Yes, it can be a pain... check the oil before you start the car to go to the track... then check the oil just before you warm the car up to go out on the track - usually there's enough time between your runs while the other run groups are on the track for the oil to return to the "sump." Depending on how long your run group sessions are - usually they're in the 20-25 minute range - I doubt you'll run low on oil in that amount of time (unless you have a catastrophic leak) you're on the track. I did two days on Heartland Park in the advanced group during Croctoberfest, and burned virtually no oil.
I have seen 15 minutes myself, it seems when you drive a little and the engine is not completely warm that is when it says that. I check it first thing before I start it.
I have been trying to ck oil level for a week, but I have not remembered to do it when I get in the car. and when I try after I get to work/home it always shows 30 or more minutes. I now have 6,500 miles on the car and I have not added any oil. I finally remembered to ck before I started the car this PM and it still shows 1 bar of oil.
