Does anybody know anything about this Porsche ipod interface?
How does it connect? Does it use the most bus or is it just a wired FM unit? Do you control the ipod through the PCM or just using its own controls etc?? Any info would be great.

The music player interface is integrated into the center console storage compartment and enables an external music player (iPod, MP3 player, etc.) to be connected via the Porsche CDR-24 radio, CDR-23 radio (Cayenne), or PCM. Song selection must be chosen via the portable music player, the radio will not control the portable unit.
Note: Includes two connections: dock connector for iPod including battery charge function and a 3.5 mm jack connector.
Comes directly from Porsche, warranty friendly!
FM unit then.
it just plugs into the 12v and that's it?
There's like a 300+ post thread on the unit; it's a wired FM modulator... PCM3 has real integration, coming soon to a Cayman near you.
From an earlier post of mine:
It's my understanding the way this unit works is that it is placed in-line with the FM antenna lead, cutting off the external antenna and sending the iPod (or AUX) signal through the antenna connection when in use. The unit itself replaces the "tray" in the center console. The iPod and AUX connections replace the 12V plug.
So technically it is an FM device, but it does not broadcast over the air - it is hard wired directly to the head unit through the antenna lead. So I guess the best way to answer you is: ,
Still, I believe this means the signal can be no better than a "perfect" FM signal.
I hope this helps!

I love these cars!!!
I really hope the PCM3 can be easily fitted to current Cayman's.
Probably wishful thinking.
Not even getting into the cost and the hassle.
Dension GW500 is really the way to go, I love mine. It's been running strong for over a year, no complaints yet! The deals even sweeter now that you can get the new bluetooth module that works with the phone end of the PCM.

Titanic, there are several articles on the GW500 already in the electronics section, including one I did about mounting in the center console. Also, K-MAN S just did one about the bluetooth module, it's linked from the home page.
