    escort 9500ix - gps fix issue ?

    Hi all,

I got an escort 9500ixicon radar detector recently - I have an issue with it and I'm curious if you guys have the same or maybe my unit is defective ,...

Some times it takes a long time for it to get a gps fix/start showing mph and eliminating known false alarms - by long time I mean around 10 mins - my iphone on the same location has no issues

I'm using the visor clip mount at the moment - which does mean that technically the radar detector doesn't have direct views to the sky - but again holding my iphone by there for instance and it fixes right - also some other times it does fixes quickly (~1min or 2)

I'd try a windshield mounting location and compare to see if that fixes it, if not then probably your unit as mine doesn't take that long, but I have mine mounted to the windshield with their new heavy duty suction cup (with lever) mount and that works great!

I have the same detecter with a visor mount. Part of the time I live in Portland with a lot of hills and trees. The detecter takes about 10 mins to acclimate itself each time. However in the desert where I live the rest of the time, it only takes a couple minutes to find itself. I guess it depends on the topography and where the satellites are situated relative to you.

Re: escort 9500ix - gps fix issue ?

Ok thanks - the part that puzzles me the most is that many times it fixes in a couple minutes and some times takes forever - maybe when it goes fast it's that it has some side view of some sattelites or something - just guessing - when I finally get my car I'll try the windshield mount - for now it's on the visor and "training" the false alarms from my old car

Another random issue/complaint: with the illumination on Auto - when using the (escorticon designed/sold) clip - it seems the sensor used for light is hidden so it always thinks it's night time... wish they'd put the sensor somewhere else - or that it was reversible like my old cheap cobra (display and mount point was reversible - for good access to buttons/... when mounted on top)
