We're the super proud owners of a Carrera White Cayman R as of this past Tuesday!
I have a quick question about the radio (we got the Bose surround sound, and also have the PCM):
How can we turn the radio off so that it doesn't come on by itself every time we start the car?
We don't want to turn off the entire PCM unit, because we do use the navigation system, we just want to stop the radio from coming on.
Thank you in advance for the help!
I tried to mute the radio, but when we turn the car on again, the radio sound is back on.
@amdeutch: It looks the best in white.
Thanks for the tip, but the Cayman R doesn't have seat memory
Yesterday I got in my Cayman and the radio came on before I put my key in the ignition. What's going on with that?

Thanks for the answer. I was afraid of that >_>
I'll try and call the dealer tomorrow anyways, see if they know some super secret way
Did you press the volume button for a few seconds to turn it off, not just mute? It works on my PCM 3.0.

You can. Turn the radio off before you turn the car off (push the volume button to turn it off). Turning the key to on will activate the radio only if it was on before.

Push the Volume button for a few seconds and it will shut off. Mine doesn't turn on when I start the car.
I like how simple and easy it is to operate everything, my parents MB is a nightmare to figure out in comparison.

I have the same issue in my GT3. The radio is just a distraction. The only solution I have found is to keep it turned down. When I turn my car on, it keeps the volume it had when it was shut off.
The other issue is that the volume increases with speed. At speed, I can't hear it but when I slow down the radio does not go all the way down to inaudible. I have to turn in down again.
If you don't have a Bose system you can use the "GAL" setting to adjust the amount of attenuation related to speed. GAL = 0 is no adjustment. The higher setting increases the loudness at speed the most.

@DaveK @Kim From Canada @NE Spyder:
If I push and hold the volume button (the left knob), the whole PCM system shuts off.
I wanted to turn just the radio off, so I don't start to hear music/talk show/whatever as soon as I start the car, but I do want the navigation system to be available.
After I call the dealer tomorrow, I'll post to you guys what they said.
If it's not possible to shut just the radio sound off, I'll have to try and go with Shine's suggestion to keep the volume turned totally down

@RSchwerer: I tried that yesterday, and I selected AUX, and that's how the car was turned off too. Unfortunately, the radio came back on next time we started the car again, it didn't keep my AUX preference
Maybe I'm missing your question but ... what about setting the input to AUX (or CD or whichever input you do not need or use or is off)
@Moorea: My answer to that is right above your post
