    CDR-24 replacement

    Hello
I want to replace my CDR-24 in my 2007 Cayman with an aftermarket unit (AVH-8400BT?)
I was wondering if I needed to purchase a unit with an Optical Digital Out as the 8400BT does not seem to have one ?

    thank you in advance

    julia

Nobody makes a unit with a fiber optic that will work with our Bose other than the Porsche units. If you have the Bosed Enhanced you'll need to purchase the Euro Motorspeed Most HUR apadter kit ($800). You can then use any HU you want. I did this and it works well. The other options are more expensive and include replacing all your speakers, amps and head unit. Although if you go that route it'll be a great system.

    Search most HUR.

    Thank you.
How do I know if I have the "Bose enhanced" ?
All I see is the "Bose" logo on both lateral speakers

    Re: CDR-24 replacement

The cost of the adapter kit to keep Bose covers a big chunk of the bill to just replace everything. If you are looking to improve sound quality, a moderately priced aftermarket amp and speakers will be far better than Bose.

Are Mosconi amps any cheaper in Italy than here in the states? Just curious.....

    Re: CDR-24 replacement

In Italy, any electronics device costs at least 25-30% more than in the USA. In fact the face price is the same but the currency changes! a 100$ product in the USA will cost 100euros here, which, with the current exchange rate, is 23% more expensive. Which Mosconi amp are you looking at? I can check the price here for you.
I am not looking in any improvement in sound quality, but rather, I want ipod integration, handsfree bluetooth for my phone and the nice screen !
I was wondering: would it be possible to buy a HU (I am thinking of Pioneer or Kenwood unit) and connect the speakers directly to this unit without amplifier, thus bypassing the bose amp ?
I am also looking into buying a euromotorspeed kit, but I haven't been able to get an answer from them so far. Would anyone know their email address ?

I'd rip out everything and start fresh, it'll cost the same but you'll have a much better system. Good luck!

    Re: CDR-24 replacement

It's easier to go with the Euro Motorspeed, you can do it yourself. $800 plus HU, maybe another $800, $1,600 total, although you can find nice HU for less. From my research replacing everything is at least as much or more, especially since you'll most likely need it installed professionally. I find the sound to be actually very good and I didn't want to risk damaging my interior.

The kit is by far the easiest route if you are only interested in adding the features of an aftermarket HU. Trying to use headunit power would be very complicated to wire. Also, the Bose speakers are generally 2-Ohm so they need to be driven by an amp stable running low impedance loads.

    Re: CDR-24 replacement

Many thanks for all the replies.
I will buy the euromotorspeed kit then.

Is there any thread here discussing about
    - microphone installation
    - rearview camera installation (how to run the cables from the HU to the camera ?)

There should be, just do a couple of searches. I few of the guys have done these mods and posted info about them.
