Front License Plate Tow Hook Mount Pics

This was made for me by Larry at www.moweraxle.com He's planning on making them for anyone who wants one. He can be reached through his site above.

He is an accomplished machinist who does quality work and is a very nice person.

No holes in the front of my Cayman except for the one the Germans gave it!

Thanks Jeff,

It is good to know we have an option. I suspect many of us would still keep it all in the trunk and only put it on if it comes to getting a ticket.

Could you tell us how much it costs?

Aloha Russ

I don't know if Larry has set a price yet as I am the prototype.

I took him my drawings and a tow hook. He made a tool for the thread as it is a weird one that he had to tool from using an optical comparator. Once the tool for the tread was made, it's cake.

I had a steel plate at first that mounted in the center of the tow hook 'slug', but I didn't like how it looked, so I took some aluminum plate I had in my shop, and cut it , countersunk it an inch off the edge for the mount, and drilled and tapped for the license plate holes. It is extremely rugged and doesn't move a bit If I want to take it off, 5 seconds with at 7/8ths open end, and it's in the trunk.

I don't know what Larry will charge for production, but I'm sure it'll be really too little, and I know his aluminum plate will look a lot better than mine does bare.

Thanks for the nice words.

Fog light spears.....Krylon Fusion Satin black. I painted the spear with the attached upper as the tabs that hold the 'upper' to the spear are really flimsy. It looks perfect inside under neons, or out in the sun. Perfect match to my eye and sooo cheap. Careful pulling off the spears as the tabs closest the center (in the point of the spear) are fragile. I didn't break one tab, but I could have very easily if I had hurried.

Thanx for letting me know.... I won't be in any hurry now. Seems every time I try to take off trim pieces I end up breaking at least one of the plastic tabs holding them on......

JJ thanks for engineering the license plate holder. Probably good to have one of these for those special inspections.

Fantastic job. I currently live in a province where we don't need front plates, but Ihave bad memories of having to mount plates on the front of cars that really shouldn't have them. This is the second-best solution, next to having the front-platelaw repealed.

On the other hand, you're missing out on the weight savings from having 2 holes drilled in your bumper!

The issue of front plates is something that bugs me - why is it that in some regions, someone makes a decision that it is fine to have cars without front plates, and in other places it does not happen - I live in Ontario and right across the border in Quebec no plates are required

Spoke to my dealer about the front plate issue a few days ago. They never put them on as a general rule, because most owners like us prefer the clean bumper line.

While front plates are required in Illinois, you can't be pulled over solely for not having one. You'll just get an extra ticket if you're pulled over for speeding Thanks for this info

Craigerdog,

From personal experience, I know that you can get pulled over for simply not having front plates in Illinois. It has happened to me, although I was let go with a warning.

Also you need to be careful in the city of Chicago proper. The parking police will give you a ticket if you are ever parked at a meter for not having front plates. Happened to my brother in law last week.

Not sure how if it is the same elsewhere.

I'm going to avoid the issue by having the car registered out of state.

jjbravo - Very nicely done, this is answer if the plate must stay mounted up front. I’ll be getting one down the road once Larry gets it going, just incase SoCal tightens their enforcement of the law.

PS I’m moving this trend to MOD’s.

Awesome!

Larry, how far apart are those holes on the plate? I want to measure my CA plates and see if they will attach or not.
