Question Anyone install "M2 Exhaust" from eBay?

Gent's, I was wondering if any of you have heard any feedback on installation ease and or improvement with sound on this low cost catback system?

The listing is on eBay as s Cayman S M2 Catback for only $299 with shipping. Very tempting. I'm not looking for more power, just a better sound.

Here is the listing link: 2005-2008 Porsche Boxster S 987 m2 Cat-Back Exhaust | eBay

I emailed them about one they were advertising for a 986 2.5L Boxster regarding sound and they wrote back that their catback systems were designed for track use and the sound would be too much for DD use.

Holy ****! Even I can afford that one. Can't be right. Hope I'm wrong but come on...that's way too cheap.

Be sure to look at the overall quality of the system as far as material and welds. Also if you could, do a before and after sound clip from the same location, so we have a basis of comparison from your camera.

Re: Anyone install "M2 Exhaust" from eBay?

I just checked the Link. Why do so many ebay sellers include 2009 Caymans in products that are obviously Gen1? I've seen this many times. Usually, I figure that anything that is supposed to fit a 2009 will also work with my 2010. But I know that's not always true. So I have to specifically ask the seller when they only show up to 2009. And almost always, the answer is No.

Back on-topic, those cans look pretty small. I'm sure that this will be very loud for street use. Track Use Only is probably more than just the usual disclaimer.

I would guess there would be alot of drone in the lower RPMs with that system.

Re: Anyone install "M2 Exhaust" from eBay?

Well see if someone posts a video and review on this, but I highly doubt a $300 exhaust will be satisfactory. I couldn't even have a exhaust shop fabricate one for materials and beer money for that cheap.

I hope your not expecting quality and/or longevity considering the price. I smell disappointment, just like this salty blob of food from Pei Wei's I got for lunch.....

    good luck

Re: Anyone install "M2 Exhaust" from eBay?

Yea, i just saw this on amazon also. Looked up RDI (Race Design Imports). Here is the link to their site Products | racedesignimports.com

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not really looking for more power just a better tune and I kinda like the way the newer cayman s looks with the two tips. I'm okay with a loud note as I don't drive the car during the week, just on the weekend when i want to enjoy a drive. I never really thought of tuning my car but for $300 i might give it a shot.

I am new to all of this so I have to ask, can a bad exhaust system damage your car? Someone mentioned quality, but in regards to the product not adding horsepower or the construction of the parts?

Re: Anyone install "M2 Exhaust" from eBay?

I recognize that exhaust! It comes from China (of course many do) and there was a distributor trying to get US companies to pick it up and carry it about 3 years ago. Imagine Auto near me got one in and put it on a customers car and it came off a week later. It has an obnoxious sound and was hard to fit up correctly, they decided not to carry it. I don't know if the system has changed any in the last 3 years but that's definitely the same system I recognize the cans and hangers.

Re: Anyone install "M2 Exhaust" from eBay?

Obnoxious as in drone? too loud? There are a few on ebay, one which costs $299, one from OBX, and one from the company Topspeed. Which are you referring to?

I'm referring to the one in the link posted at the beginning of this thread. I don't know what the exact problem was with regard to sound, if it was too loud or drone or both, you'd have to ask the owner of the car or the guys from Imagine Auto, but I know the owner Stephen didn't think he could sell them because he'd have too many complaints/returns and he didn't want to fight over having to credit back labor as well as I recall.

Re: Anyone install "M2 Exhaust" from eBay?

    ok!
I`ve installed it today on my 2006 cayman S.
    doesn`t fit at all,
the mufflers are not sitting symmetrical to the car.
one side is closer to the tranny than the other
and the tips look stupid because it has a 2 inch pipe in the middle of the 3.5 inch tip
and it STICKS OUT 4 INCHES PAST THE BUMPER.
the middle bracket also doesn`t bolt up to anything, its just there for no reason except to hold the 2 sides together.

i had to chop the rear section and redo it to make things look good.
i also changed the tips to my own Borlaicon 3.5 inch tips. it looks more authentic because it has borla engraved on the tips.

on the good side, the car idles just like stock with maybe a very slight grumble.
the power goes right past 6 grand and i don`t feel any power drop up until 7 grand at which i shift.
highway cruising and just as quiet as before unless i go wide open throttle and instantly the car transforms into a monster.
kinda scary because the car`s rear shifts to the side when i`m at 6000rpm just right before i shift, going at about 150km per hour (its was raining and i have bald tires)

also, one more thing to mention. There was a lot of fiberglass coming out of the exhaust when we first started it up. kinda made the whole shop seem like it was snowing. It also made all my employees itch.
overall, i can`t complain considering i only paid 365 shipped to Toronto canada.
It got to my shop in 5 days.

    i`m happy

You made it sound really bad, but you're saying the overall is good?

OK, so all these are negatives. And with all the finagling you had to do to get it to fit and look decent, you still like it?

Have anything more objective, like a before and after installation dyno chart?

Also, as an aside...driving at 90+mph on bald tires in the rain will get you killed easier than accurately measuring power increases...
