Angry Bad Experience At a Shop in Toronto

    This is just my story.

Bought some spacers from a shop (Sports Car Boutique) referred by a friend because they have it in stock. Took them home and then took them to another Shop (Engineered Automotive) to have them install and perform an alignment and an oil change before i take my car to the track just to be safe.

dropped my car off there in the morning on my way to work, in the afternoon they called back or something saying that they took two hours trying to align the car with the spacers and it won't align. they said they can't put the spacers in and said the spacers don't fit.
after i got the message, i told them to align the car and just give me back the spacers so i can take them back to Sports Car Boutique and maybe there is a mixup there.
got the bill from EA charging me for oil change, alignment and 2hrs of labour Attempting to fit the spacers.

the next day i took the spacers back to Sports Car Boutique and see if they gave me the wrong spacers, they checked and it's the right ones, they took the car in for 10 minutes, washed the wheels and placed the spacers. no problem at all, no alignment issues and they didn't even charge me.

so i went back to Engineered Automotive, and see what's going on they said they need to talk to their manager. I told them if i gave them something that's not right then i won't mind paying those 2 hrs of labour but the spacers are the correct ones, and it took the other shop less than 10 minutes to install them something must be wrong there..... i demanded a refund of the 2 hrs labour only, i didn't even ask for a refund of the alignment.

Engineered Automotive called Sports Car Boutique and verified that they only took less than 10 minutes to install the same spacers and i didn't make this all up. then their response after dragging this issue for more than a month is that it's still not their problem of ATTEMPTING for 2 hrs trying to fit a brand new spacers, and they did nothing wrong.

$200 is not a lot of money but it's a matter of business, if it's my fault and given them wrong spacers then ok but charging me 2 hrs of labour and making me run around so many times and said they did nothing wrong.

I would quiz them more about why exactly they were not able to fit the spacers. Unfortunetly, you already paid them for the work provided, so you probably won't be getting your money back. Once you turn over the dough your biggest advantage is gone. I would chalk it up to a crappy shop and inform everyone you can, to avoid that shop.

What do the spacers have to do with alignment? They can still perform an alignment. They're not related.

Also, what the hell did they do for 2 hours? They should've known within 15 minutes trying to fit one wheel whether or not they'd fit.

I'm guessing you already paid them? Not much you can do now but avoid like the plague and possibly make a public embarrassment for them.

sorry to hear from your lost.
from my past experienced with bad shop, if you paid by the credit card, i sugguest you can filed a fraud report to see if you can get the full refund from the credit card company. it also helps credit card company to be alert this is bad company.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Did you pay by credit card? If so call up you credit card, explain the situation and dispute the 2 hour labor payment.

That is horrible. Sometimes it isn't the money it is just simply the principal.

    Exactly!

That really sucks and I can't imagine what they did for two hours and that in itself warns of a bad shop, but then after that to not admit your fault is the icing on the cake.

Maybe you should change the title of this thread to include the shop name.

Wow, installing a spacer is about one of the easiest things to do? Maybe they were hub centric and that shop had no idea what the "lip" was ? Doesn't excuse them in any way!

Re: Bad Experience At a Shop in Toronto

and that's that the first time i went to them...
was giving them a second chance...
but will never be dumb enough to give them a third chance

first time was for a leaking waterpump..
they quoted me almost double the usual honest shop i went to they said they have to change the thermostat...even though the thermostat was fine...

they said the leak in the water pump could come from the thermostat...

i was about to take my car to the usual shop...then they give a discount and took out the thermostat in the quote and said if i take my car away they will charge me for diagnostic for an hour's labour...

should have never gone back,...but it's so convenient to drive by going to work and drop off the car... but won't fall for the lazy trap again.
