    Question Cayman 2.7 engine vibration

Hi - new to Porsche experience with a 2008 base Cayman and cant get enough. As I get to know the car I'm noticing what feels like engine vibration or some harmonics at around 3000RPM in any gear. I can feel it through the steering wheel so its hard to pinpoint the source. Also cannot get more than 23MPG ( although I am driving fast and high revs mostly) Appreciate any feedback. Will get it to dealer soon

    Re: Cayman 2.7 engine vibration

My 2.7 is a 2007 vintage... sorry, but I don't get such a vibration... pretty smooth up though the whole rpm range... (done so at DE's..).

W/r to fuel economy.. my "normal" driving with some city, mostly freeway gets about 27 to 28 mpg.. the 30+ mpg only when being gentle at freeway only speeds. For reference... running pretty much all on at Laguna Seca gets about 11 to 12 mpg.. so, aggressive pushing high rpm's will drive down fuel economy.. Just to confirm the thesis, try a tank without spinning past 5000... even short shifting while on the freeway -- e.g. below 4000... see what you get.

Fuel efficiency seems normal, so I doubt your engine is misfiring. Since the vibration happens at a given RPM regardless of road speed, it sounds to me like something is out of balance on the engine side of the clutch...perhaps the dual-mass flywheel?

    Re: Cayman 2.7 engine vibration

Folks - thanks for your insights...vibration is sporadic, can yet pinpoint or correlate but working that and will post when I get to the root. Will likely need dealer help ( 17K miles with lots of warranty left on the certified 6/100K ). Other than that, car is a complete blast..all positive writeups about this car are true and then some: power, steeing precision, handling, engine sound..the S would be nice but honestly, for road only, you would be hard pressed to actually utilize the extra horses. Handling is par. Cant keep cont of the compliments about this car.

That's interesting, I feel a slight sporatic vibration at idle through my seat but not at the steering wheel. I'd like to know what this is before my warranty expires in Feb. Car is an 07 CS, 23K mi.

Does it do it in neutral as well as in gear?
If you have an MT how does the clutch feel i.e. Bite point and is it smooth?

As Croc'ed said the flywheel could be one possible culprit and they do fail, sometimes at low hours.

It's best though to let the dealer check it, so you can get back to driving it
