The Most Underestimated Piece of Equipment: Driving Underwear

Some of you may remember my previous posts about driving shoes and driving socks. I have since discovered another sports car driver essential: driving underwear (check this out at https://www.driversgearbox.com/acces...ving-underwear ).

This underwear is simply the best you can find for driving. The (silky) fabric called Icefil® makes you feel up to 5 degrees cooler, which is quite ideal for longer drives in your car seat. The fabric has a 4-way stretch to allow for increased movement and flexibility. It is extremely soft and breathable, keeping you dry and comfortable. The fit is snug on the leg to avoid your underwear bunching up. All critical seams are removed from your key comfort areas. This ensures you are not rubbing against any seams or stitching.

But the best feature is the keyhole 3-dimensional pouch which supports the package. It eliminates the need to rearrange or adjust (not unlike a comfortable jock strap). The pouch also helps to keep you cool and dry while reducing the chance of chaffing.

I keep looking for more unique driving gear for sports car drivers. Keep you posted!

PS I haven’t tested yet how much time I can shave with this underwear on the track…

Is this underwear fire rated? If you wear unrated undies under your fire rated driver's suit and you end up in a situation where you are testing the effectiveness of the suit, you will find (as many others have) that the unrated underwear will cause severe burns as it melts/ignites under the suit.
You are better off going commando while on the track than to wear anything other than SFI certified skivvies.

Re: The Most Underestimated Piece of Equipment: Driving Underwear

They're really great but they're not cheap. They are designed for street driving (not fire rated). @captanzuelo, you got a great idea. Somebody else than me needs to review them. How's $25 for the first one to buy a pair and commit on this thread to write a review on the keyhole? PM me if you're willing to get your coupon code.

I clicked on this topic figuring that the OP was recommending Depends for track days.

I got the code, will be placing the order shortly.

Will a review from a vehicle traveling at Mach .81 and 41,000 feet for 7 hours suffice?

@captanzuelo, I'm sure you're currently testing your new driving underwear under multiple conditions including driving I hope...let us know what you think about the keyhole and cooling fabric!

Re: The Most Underestimated Piece of Equipment: Driving Underwear

I've got over 10 pairs of Mypakage underwear! The keyhole is amazeballs... These are much better than SAXX.

I just can't comment on these particular 'driving underwear', otherwise I can't picture myself buying non-keyhole underwear in the future.

Just have to find them on sale when they're at 50% off

Re: The Most Underestimated Piece of Equipment: Driving Underwear

I've had the pleasure(pun intended) of flying and driving in these briefs for a few thousand miles now. I can honestly say, they are really comfortable, especially with that Keyhole design. The only negative thing was there is no opening in front for when nature calls. So you have to drop your trousers and briefs around your knees/ankles when you have to go pee. Made for an interesting experience at the urinals.

The moment I tried them on, the icefil material felt silky smooth and my "package" was kept in place, not stuck to the side of my (left) thigh. Unfortunately, the missus walked in at that point, saw the "MyPakage"(sic) label on the front along with my Boys propped up by the Keyhole and made a snarky "are you turning gay?" remark. Hmpff, what does she know about comfortable men's underwear anyways.

The ultimate test was when I flew an approach into Jackson Hole Wyoming, on a snowy night. Landing on a compacted snow topped runway with a gnarly crosswind. The passengers were eerily quiet, as they understood the risks involved. My co pilot was staring out the front window, eyes as wide as a doe, staring into the pitch black darkness. As the approach lights appeared, and the runway grew closer, I started to kick in the rudder to side slip into the crosswind. The Keyhole design worked as advertised and the icefil material kept the briefs from bunching up. We touched down smoothly and taxied into the parking ramp whilst the passengers applauded in delight. After shutdown, I got up to bid them farewell and noticed that I didn't have to readjust myself or "shake" myself loose. High performance driving gear indeed.

I wish the reviews I read on all kind of stuff be that entertaining. Thanks a lot! I'm happy that the Keyhole did its magic for you too. Anything else you would like to review on The Driver's Gear Box? You're hired!
