You need great thumbs to be an F1 driver . . .
I was watching the practice session this a.m. and they had a short segment explaining the functions on the F1 steering wheel, which has about twice as many buttons and switches as a Playstation controller.
Not only is the driver using it to steer and shift every few seconds, but they change the diff, engine maps, and front wing settings on the fly - sometimes turn to turn - and all this while maintaining an average speed over 100 mph on that very twisty course!
And you thought just learning to heel and toe downshift was tricky . . .

Re: Monaco '09
Frank Williams says his drivers are showboating.
showboating perhaps.
Bit too much of that probably.
Formula One always finds out the truth pretty quickly.
If you are quick the race will tell you that you are quick or the public.
In practice, you can fool people including yourself.

Rosberg is auditioning for a new contract (and his engineers are enabling him).

Re: Monaco '09
This is the first year I've had SpeedTV in HiDef, and I watched the practice from yesterday - have to say, some of the shots from Monaco are absolutely stunning on the big screen. Qualifying will be very interesting - it always is here - the short, narrow track makes it very hard to get clean laps - only the best drivers do well in Q here.

This may make me reconsider keeping Comcast cable. Maybe Verizon FiOs has SpeedHD?

Re: Monaco '09
HD sports on DirecTV are about the only reasons I have TVs. Highly recommended if you don't have it somewhere else. Of course then you have to have the biggest flat screens that will fit....

I watch that segment also. I knew the F1 steering wheel was complex but holy **** batman. Next time someone tells how good NASCAR drivers are just tell them lets compare steering wheels

Re: Monaco '09
Here are the fuel weights.
1. Jenson Button 647.5
2. Kimi Raikkonen 644.0
3. Rubens Barrichello 648.0
4. Sebastian Vettel 631.5
5. Felipe Massa 643.5 Lap
6. Nico Rosberg 642.0
7. Heikki Kovalainen 644.0
8. Mark Webber 646.5
9. Fernando Alonso 654.0
10. Kazuki Nakajima 668.0
Vettel is an early stopper. Probably eight laps before Button! They must have rolled the dice for pole but caught traffic.

Re: Monaco '09
I think the stewards need to upgrade to HD so they can see Ferraris cutting the chicanes....oh wait that's right...the stewards all wear special FIA (Ferrari Intervention Association) glasses, nevermind!
