Radiator Mesh Grills
Got me some new grills - not the dental kind, but some mesh grills to protect the front radiators, which I ordered from Tess Tickle and Motordrive (and were designed by fellow Caymanite, ET19).
Unfortunately, the front radiators on a Cayman are pretty exposed to debris, especially on a daily driver and track car, and mine were starting to show a fair amount of damage. I thought the grills were a good idea, but I had been procrastinating with my installation, intimidated by the thought of removing the front bumper cover, which is necessary to install them.
After reading thru porsches4ed's excellent article on removing the front bumper for the 4th or 5th time, I finally mustered enough courage to tackle the project. It ended up being about as difficult as I might have imagined - not that it is particularly difficult from a technical standpoint, but several of the steps can really try your patience if you haven't done it before.
Of course, my wife and daughter came home and expressed their horror and dismay at finding my "perfectly good Porsche" in an alarming state of disassembly. I tried to assure them (and myself) that I would have no problem putting it back together as good as new - or actually better, now that it would have the grills.
After about 4 hours of labor I finally finished, and as I backed the car out to take some pictures, I realized that the rubber collar which surrounds the center radiator, wasn't seated properly. I managed to partially fix it with some small tools, but I guess I'm going to have to remove the bumper again to fix it properly.
Oh well, live and learn.
