    2018 Macan?

Hello All. For 2018 the Audi Q5 is going to be "all new", including a weight reduction of about 200 pounds. (and made in Mexico for US consumption!) We all know that the Macan is based off of the Audi Q5, although highly modified by Porsche to be a "Porsche". Does anyone know if the 2018 Porsche Macan will be changed based upon the "new" Audi Q5? Any insight? Thanks in advance!

No. You can order a MY18 Macan now, or at least on the configurator. The facelift is due MY19. Google for articles on it but since Audi owns the SUV platform, I would expect it to continue to be based on Audi designs. Porsche owns the sports car designs for the future, audi the SUVs, or at least prior to the scandal, that was the plan.

Hopefully there will never be a Porsche made in Mexico, I can't believe Audi is stooping so low. A USA Audi plant would be fine, but for a luxury brand to go to Mexico...really?

Or whatever profits the country. But this isn't a political topic so let's stay on target.

I don't think the Macan will be built in Mexico. Is the factory in Leipzig at full capacity? I don't think so but I am also not sure. If Porsche needed to expand factory capacity, I would start building them in China way before I built a factory in North America.

From what I hear, there will be a number of months of no Macan production while Porsche retools the factory for the new Macan. That makes this a hard year for dealers. Some are scrambling for all the Macans they get get from other dealers and stockpiling for the coming production drought. My recollection is they will shut down for something like 4.5 months. 1 month of that is likely their usual August shutdown.

OMG, that will be a huge hit to dealers then as this is the best selling Porsche model. I guess they will keep taking orders, but the Macan may not be the type of vehicle some people are willing to wait months for delivery on. This should definitely keep resale values of generation 1 Macan's very high until gen 2 production catches up to pre-orders.

    Re: 2018 Macan?

Bear with me but why does it matter if the car is built in Mexico? Same product. Big company. Quality matters. Surely they are aware of that fact that if the machines built elsewhere have a higher defect rate then they are going to suffer and that would be the last thing that Porsche would want. So once again why does it matter if Mexico builds it? Logistically it would make more sense.

The same reason people say buy American or buy German in the first place. We are willing to pay a premium price for a Porsche knowing it's not just designed in Germany but also manufactured in Germany. Now if Porsche wants to put out an entry level vehicle starting at $30K like Mercedes and build them in Mexico that I would be fine with. However, I'm not paying $80K for a 718 built in Mexico even if the quality is the same, just so Porsche can have even bigger profit margins.

Thanks for the explanation. I see your point but to me it would not make one iota of difference provided quality is the same where it's made. If Porsche is making a fatter profit margin good for them. If they would reduce their price on their product because they wanted to give the savings back to the customers then yay :P That would never happen though lol.
