I've been on this forum since 2011 when I bought my Cayman R, which I still own - yesterday, on an impulse, I decided to trade in my wife's Cayenne for a 2017 Macan R4 - the Cayenne (2012 Base) was coming on five years, needed new brakes, was off warranty, you know where this is going. Short list options I'd been thinking about were the Q5, F-Pace, Disco Sport or Merc GLC. My wife had an appointment in the city yesterday, so I said I'd drive her and drop by one of the Porsche dealers to have a look at cars. She eyed me suspiciously.... After driving the Macan, what my Scottsdale dealer had told me about this car was true. The Macan is to the Cayenne what my Cayman is to a 911. Smaller, nimbler, quicker, more fun to drive. The car is Volcano Grey with the 19" turbo wheels and panoramic sunroof - it has the Premium package....whatever that is. In driving it, there was a discernable turbo lag which goes away when you use sport mode....issue solved. We take delivery next Wednesday. No real plans for mods except perhaps replacing the exhaust tips at some point and have a full clear bra wrap installed on the front end (I now live in the Great White North where salt is eschewed for environmental reasons and replaced with sand on our local roads).
While I would have loved a Turbo or a GTS, as this is primarily my wife's car....the R4 fits the bill both in terms of reasonable cost and economy (now there's a phrase not often associated with Porsche cars).
I welcome any tips and suggestions from other R4 owners. As we still have about two feet of now in our yard, I may yet be able to speak to it's performance in the white stuff (well.....mostly dirty white stuff these days).
