Debating between the Cayenne and Macan

This may sound silly, but I’m debating this with myself as I struggle to choose between the Macan and Cayenne. I test drove both models in different variants (S, GTS, turbo) over the past years and yesterday I drove the Cayenne Hybrid too. I don’t see anything the Cayenne offers that the Macan doesn’t.

My criteria:
1)) I’m looking for an SUV, that 99.99% of the time I’d be driving alone.
2)) All my SUVs I buy them to go to work (construction sites).
3)) Off road capability is important for me
4)) fuel economy is not a s significant factor, although the Cayenne Hybrid ticks this box wonderfully.

My questions:
1)) So why would one choose the Cayenne over the Macan or vice versa?
2)) did anyone here move from one to the other then regret it later on?

Thank you in advance.

I’ve driven both and have owned a Macan S for several years. IMO the only reason to not get a Macan is if you need more interior room to haul stuff. I find the Macan much more fun to drive than a Cayenne. Since you will be driving alone most of the time I would think you would have more fun in a Macan.

1. If you’re going to be by yourself most of the time I’d think that the Macan would be a better choice.

2. Construction Sites - I see nails, screws and other sharp objects that love to damage wide sticky tires - get tire insurance.

As co owner of 2016 Macan S, and having driven the Cayanne a number of times, the Macan is a clear winner! That new Macan Turbo with the 2.9l looks especially sweet...

You must be the boss, most people who go to a construction site drive pickup trucks ! ?

I too am at construction sites quite often.
There is a reason most drive pickups. That's for the ground clearance. (and the macho image).
It may not be a lot, and I've never heard of a " lifted " Porsche, but the Cayenne is should be more capable off road.

If I was in your position I would be looking real hard at the cayenne coupe. We bought a 2012 CTT last year and are ultra happy with it. It is our first water cooled car. We drive aircooled vintage VW's and Porsches and decided to join the 21st century.

I’ve owned both, of 67 cars I’ve owned, the Macan was my favorite. However I have a 2020 Cayenne on order. If you can fit someone behind you in the backseat buy the Macan. I am over 6’ and my seat is far back. No matter what you buy get Air Suspension both cars are choppy especially the Cayenne, Air fix’s it. If you own a Porsche get Sport exhaust not just tips. Standard seats are ok but look at full leather.

We have one of each; a 2018 Macan GTS, and a 2015 Cayenne Diesel. Both are very clearly Porsches, with lots of sporty things, but the Macan is an absolute blast to drive, especially in sport mode. However, keep your gas card handy, because it’s thirsty! And beyond a couple of bags in the hatch, there’s not a ton of space.

The cayenne, however, is our long distance hauler (with a trailer hitch). It gets 1200km to a tank of gas, and there are many days I can get below 7l/100km. It has a payload of 1500lbs (same as my former F150!) and can tow something like 7500lbs. It’s a beast, and we do all of our long haul driving with it. I find it a bit more sedate, which is great for longer driving, but it will still fly once you drop the pedal on it. To me its the perfect balance between a poorly engineered American pickup truck, and a well-engineered German car.
