I say enough is enough with the shades of grey. Carrara White is a shade of grey. So is black. So are arctic silver, atlas grey, slate grey, basalt black, seal grey (now n/a), and GT silver.
Among what's left, midnight blue is my current fav, and in many lighting scenarios, looks black. Dark olive also looks black a lot of the time, and is marvelous, but is currently a "special" color (+$3,070SRP/+$2,610invoice).

If you're going to get a green car (any shade) lease it, or else it will DESTROY your resale\trade-in value. - Suneet

That raises the time worn question, are you buying the car for yourself or for the next owner?
But backing away from the platitudes, I had the same concern when I started considering ordering one of the greens (forest or olive). Evidently I talked myself out of it and into the midnight blue. And there's still ample time for me to change my mind yet again!

I've just placed an order for a Cayman yesterday, and I went through the same agonizing decision as you. It costs us US$2000 at least for any color other than Black, red, Yellow or White.
I was torn between white and yellow, since 50% of all cars in here are black, and red is an invitation to vandalism. So is yellow actually, though less so.
I rejected yellow because:
1) The cops in a neighbouring country would bust me whether I did anything wrong or not, just because it's a striking color.
2) Yellow suits a 911 Turbo or C4S more, a Cayman must have a little more humility.
3) Since I'm a sales guy, turning up in a bright yellow cayman may not be the best thing. White is a little more low key.
4) Yellow is the second most striking color which attracts vandals.
Anyway, white for me.

White.
If you have owned and cared for a black sports car for any length of time and fondly recall the experience, then by all means go back there. I have, I don't and I'm not.

I have black cayman with techart body kit, but when i see the white one, the curves and the lines shows more in white. its more outsanding in white.
so, i think white is better.. my next car is going to be white for sure.

Well this will stir it up: A very competitive GT2 dirver freind who owns a White GT3 recently told me to always go with white for a new reason that no one has mentioned yet - it is apparently much lighter (by weight) than any other color with metalics being heavier by buckets of weight and Red being the heaviest by pigment weight required to get it solid...airplanes are white for this reason!
Also White is by far the easiest color to match if body work is done (with metalics being the hardest if not impossible to ever exactly match - they have a grain structure).
Black is my second favorite color to white having owned both colors many times I must say that white has several other advantages - it is much safer and the Cayman is low and small and moves fast so people need to see you and white is definately good for that - others have mentioned this but it must be restated if you are leaning to black - every hairline scratch and I mean EVERY tiny microscopic scratch (and there are always millions of them due to buffing etc and they build up over the years) will be more and more visible - not just dust but swirl marks to inifinity, and wax will also fill the larger nicks with white which is very annoying.
White is amazing to live with as well. Also - as a design goes the black inset in the airdam in the front and the opening of the gills on the side as well as the preferable black interior add a very successful design contrast that the black car does not have - it just works better in a lighter color and I am not into metalic paint or red or yellow (unless is is Italian)
Black is the color of Death and White is the color of Light - this is something that will arguably make an impression on your daily experince even if on a subconsious level...I still would own a black car with all of this said - it is just that I have truly enjoyed white cars MORE than black cars and I say the Cayman looks much better in lighter colors and particularly WHITE!

Now there's one I had never thought of before. I wonder how many ounces of difference we're talking, lightest vs. heaviest paint? I bet it's way under ten pounds.

Now this is an interesting point! I read once of a survey of car color vs. psychological profile. The one I remember distinctly was that people with white cars were most likely to suffer from depression. I wonder if they get white cars to try to compensate for their temperament?

I had a black boxster and told myself I wouldn't get another black car.... after looking at all of the Caymans on the lot.... I ended up with basalt black metallic with black seats.
For some reason the black just sings to me.
