Warning - Burned by the Man

Drivingthe 241Toll Road through the recent brush fire areas of Anahiem Hills I was nailed, not for speeding, but for not displaying my toll road transponder!!!

I had one laying (and working) in the little cubbie near the shifter but apparently it has to be 'clearly visible'.Especially if you don't have plates they'll get you for this.

That sucked!

Yep, its california law. I don't affix my transponder to the windshield either. But any time I see a cop while on the toll roads, I leave it in the dashboard corner.

I was always keep my transponder in the center console storage area and put in on the dash when driving through the Fast Track Toll Collection Speed Trap. So, not having this ugly thing affixed to the windshield gives the police an excuse to pull you over. Another reason to avoid the toll roads! Can you go to court and get them to throw this ticket out? What is the fine?

I went to high school in SoCal. Toll roads - yikes!!! We don't have toll roads in NoCal (just bridges).

The technology is at the point where if you don't have a transponder AND you cross a bridge in the transponder only lane, where a camera gets your phot, a license plate photo and your VIN!! They you get a ticket in the mail.

FM, that's exactly why they got me. No plates yet, so as far as he know I could have been trying to ride for free. I just didn't know.

MP, don't know the fine yet. I might try to show up in court and have them throw it out.

Probably a trooper wanting to record the first Cayman kill for bragging rights. Not a good sign for having no front plates however.

Interesting. And a bummer. But it seems the authorities are serious about this violation. I picked up my Fastrak transponder today in San Francisco and got a rather stern lecture about how the device must be 'prominately' displayed.

fmarshall. Wait a minute, they can get a photo of our VIN? No BS? The license plate is easy I can understand that resolution, aim, etc. but our VIN? If they can photo that, then they have been photoing me flipping them each time I go over the SF Bay Bridge. Is that a crime?

When they come try to pry that Cayman key out of my hand, I'm yelling 'First Amendment!'

He meant plate. FasTrak lanes definitely can take a photo of the plate and send you a ticket.

I have had FastTrax for many years. When I got mine they handed it to me - that was it. I had never heard, until today, that I had to have it displayed. Maybe they slipped the announcement of the Law stating that I must display the transponder inthe envelope with the bill that I get delivered electronically?

CC; sounds like an excuse just to pull someone over. Seems like they could check the records very easily to see if the car had legally passed thru the gates????

Yea, Hwy Patrol is on a mission right now so I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Once he had me pulled over he really gave the interior a once over. He may have been looking for a radar detector or just checking it out orhe may have just beenlooking for a back seat! Dumb ***!
