Well I am the first one home (well I think Tony beat me home), so I wanted to start a thread for stories and memories. We all had a great time..and thanks goes out to Spindoc for helping to set this all up, his tiring efforts to plan the routes, scouting trips....etc.
I will start with some new jargon, then we can add the stories as people make it home and log back on....
1. Van goes Barrell Bowling on I-40 on Saturday.
2. Dominic makes it one night without the internet at Pisgah!
3. We now have three Bills. Bill (Koff), BillC and Tall Bill (Joe TwelvePack).
4. Andrew is the official Dragon photographer for the Caymans!
5. "Roll the window down Jackie!"
6. Meals are divided into two equal parts....one hour for eating, one hour for waiting on the check and change!
7. King Croc!!
8. Video cameras and windshield wipers cannot occupy the same space.
9. Suneet needs a trailer hitch and extra tires to insure he always has another set!
10. Dave cheats and brings a Targa!
11. Cayman Turbo!
12. Clean Caymans are happy Caymans!
13. The mustang on Route 1513!
14. Introducing the Cayman Navy!
Your turn!

Well Kevin... you'll be glad to know I made it home tire incident free.
What I really could've used on the trip was a lift kit, some off-roading tires, and a gps that actually listens when I say avoid unpaved/dirt roads... will have to order some new plastics for the bottom of the car.
Here is a partial video clip of my second run up the Tail of the Dragon. The length of the video is 5:32, which is a little more than 1/4th of the entire run. The full video is just too much to post in one piece.
One of my favorite parts is at 3:03 when I pass Andrew with his Cayman at the pull over. Notice the long distance view.....very nice!

I'm HOME! Long day back to Jacksonville. That's a sweet video Kevin with the background music.
I had a super time, it was great meeting everyone and hanging out with you the past 3 days. Can't wait till next year to do it again. I'm hooked and will attend as long as we have them.
Everyone take care!

You were directly in front of me!! Except by directly, I mean about 1/2 mile ahead right from the start. When you see my rear wing drop...is about the time you and the gang left me in the dust!

Comes with a thousand mounts it seems...and is very tiny. I like it and am thinking of getting a second one, with the regular lens to go along with it.

Dang,
I though the camera was pointed towards the front. Was hoping to see a little bit of my "Black Croc" on some "TWISTIES".
Maybe somebody else caught some footage of me. On top of that, my camera was broken the whole weekend.
SO, ALL YOU RNC4 ATTENDEES POST or SEND me some pictures! PLEASE..

Can you run it real time speed with just actual sound? Great times it appears!
What? It is real time speed. The camera I have has a waterproof enclosure (it was raining some during the trip) and the sound is not good....unfortunately.

This was the only run I did with it on the rear. Tony saw the camera and thought it was cool, so he asked me to film him on the way back up. Since I had a video looking forward on the way down...I obliged. It turned out nice.

Yes fantastic weekend. Not sure a weekend spent almost entirely in your car could be any more fun. Great people too.
1422 miles from door to door. And for the last 7 hour leg I averaged 29.7 mpg which is 4 mpg more then I have ever gotten before...must have cleaned out the engine on one of those runs.
It's amazing at how different that run is in person and watching on a video. That run (the one on video) was amazing.
What was it 18 people and 13 caymans? Well, one of them was really funny looking. We had a 4-car DC caravan that stayed together the whole way up and back and people pointing at us and taking pics the whole way. Well, almost stayed together, the cayman turbo had a hard time keeping up.

It is really true! The video just cannot do the in car experience any justice. In fact, I feel like it is one of the most intense 15+ minutes you could spend in a car on the road. I feel pretty worn after just two runs. Some people stay and run that road all day and weekend long....whew!
It was nice to meet you too. I enjoyed it. Hope none of the newbies thought the veterans were too nutty....well except for Domnick!
Oh and yeah...that one silver Porsche was funny looking!

Great video, you pulled away from the white CS at great speed, rode the yellows well too!
What did the bystanders do and how was it at the hotels with 10+ Cayman's pulling up?
Did you worry about security for the cars at night from the local gentry?
The Quaife LSD gave me an advantage over Tony's stock Cayman at least for two people who dont have a lot of track time. But I tell you, on other roads I followed him (between 64 and the Parkway on Parkway Road North) and I could not keep up with him!
As for the yellows....I am waiting for some people to comment on me being over in a few places. But I should attempt to head that off by saying a few things....1) it is a wide angle lens....so as you watch the video....look at how far off the left side of the road my car looks in some frames. I was never off the asphalt. Not even once. So the angle and camera makes it appear that I am over the yellows way, way more than I was. In fact, Tony and I critiqued it (he would know...he was behind me) and he said i was over in a few spots. 2) We, the gang, REALLY REALLY stress how going over the yellow on this road is simply a no-no. So for me, this is almost foremost in my mind while driving, perhaps even more than speed, experience...etc.
3) There is a zero tolerance for going over the yellow. Do that and you will get a ticket. It happened while we were there....and this was shot before 9 am!
So for anyone who thinks I am over the yellow...take all that into consideration before you assume. Just sayin....
TO answer your other questions...
As far as hotels....well it is nice to pull up in caravan and have people stop and talk or watch. Some hotels we stayed at were very small and so there was not much attention given. Near Robbinsonville, NC they are used to all sorts of cars coming to the Dragon....
By standers...well there were NONE on the Dragon (except what you see at 3:03 on the video) and those were drivers taking a break..not bystanders. As for other areas....we got attention occasionally but not a great deal. With the video camera on top of my car I did have a few people waving at me. I will see if I can find that.
LSD - Limited Slip Differential
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.
