Seat Ventilation.... How well does it work?

Went by a new Porsche dealer yesterday to look at their stock. Suncoast Porsche in Sarasota.

First time I've seen a yellow cayman (not easy to find)

They tried to give me a demonstration of how the seat ventilation works.... but the car had been sitting in the hot Florida sun all day, and we didn't feel any air flow?

How well does the seat AC work? Anyone have it?

I'm wondering if it might have been different if the car was not heat soaked from being in the sun all day? Or maybe the unit wasn't working right? Our salesman said he could feel it 10 minutes later, as he said the seat got cool. But I was walking back into the showroom by then ( I thought I'd be able to feel air coming out when I ran my hand over the seat?)

Mercedes has had them for a while now and I never ordered them. Getting cool air through the padding and the perforated leather to be able feel anything through your clothes seemed like a big stretch. You should feel it faster than in 10 minutes if you were riding around buck-naked.

The ventilated seats do get ventilated though.

Re: Seat Ventilation.... How well does it work?

Not a direct reply to the question but my wife's lexus has heated and cooled seats. In winter, the car is normally garaged and the heat part gets used rarely. In summer, the cooled part gets used every hot day. Otherwise, the leather seats tend to get sticky. I would get ventilated seats over heated seats, given a choice. If I had a cabriolet (which I never will), then it's a horse of a different color. Heated seats with the top down and the heat on full may be the way to go.

It works fairly well in the 997.2 once you realize that it's not really AC, but a fan that suck air through the perforations in the seat and exhausts in the back. I find that letting interior AC run for 10 minutes before turning on the seat ventilation works well. You need to get the cabin air temperature down a bit. You also need to wear light clothing to feel the effect since it suck air across your skin and into the seat.

I wonder how it pulls air into the seat if someone is in it? or do you let the car idle empty with the AC on for a while?

My AC cools me fine in 3 to 5 minutes after the car has been sitting outside in high noon. I wouldn't pay $800 to have my seats cool in 10 minutes.

Re: Seat Ventilation.... How well does it work?

Works wonders here in Houston. Helps to have a good sun shade to keep the seat itself from getting scorching hot. I wear long sleeve dress shirt and Dockers to work, and even with outside temp 95+, AC set to 73 (with recirculate to filter dirty Houston air), I arrive home after 20 mi/40 minute commute pretty dry on the back/bottom side!
