Just placed a deposit on a pre-owned CS...
...stepping out from lurking status.
In the process of aquiring an arctic silver/cocoa 06 cayman S with PASM, sport chrono, 19" wheels, bi-xenons and the preferred pack that was available back then. Just south of 13k miles on the odometer.
Needless to say, I'm pretty thrilled. I'm coming from an 07 335i coupe.
Clear sides and stuffing the bose sub will likely be completed before I get her home even.

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Thanks Colin. She is quite the looker IMO.
Ha! I guess I should update my location. I moved from Boston to Chicago late in 08. I sure do miss the east coast.

Re: Just placed a deposit on a pre-owned CS...
Good for you ! I'm trying to do the same but having no luck ! I have 4 pretty big local dealers (Tampa Bay), but none has a used Cayman S, stick shift with a black or grey interior for sale, or if so (one or 2 only in orlando I think) nowhere near close to a decent price. I need to use a dealer as I wanna trade in my VW GTI and save on taxes a little...
I'd have expected more lease returns by now, c'mon guys, buy the 09s ;-)

No need to tell me about taxes, the sale tax rate in my county in IL is 10.25%. You read that right, 10.25%. I considered trading my 335, but they offered well below market... $25k. Using a 10% tax rate, I'd need to sell my car for $27.5k to break even. Which shouldn't be tough for me to do given the car's low mileage and options. You might find yourself in a similar situation.

Duck:
I just got an '06 CS Arctic Silver/Black with most of the options you have. Great car and a great value.
I'm in far west suburbs of Chicago. I've lived here a long time but I lived quite a while in the lovely hills of Hocking Valley in SE Ohio, so I know how it can be to miss land with character.
Chicago is pretty flat compared to MA and has roads as least as potholed, but fear not. Try SW Wisconsin. A weekend drive to LaCrosse via Mineral Point on back roads will put you right.
PM me for secret route instructions if you'd like to try it. Great roads and Mineral Point has a couple of amazing restraunts and an old hotel by a creek... Holiday Inn at LaCrosse has covered parking and two terrific full fare restaurants nearby on the river and a bunch of college bars nearby. There is also an ice cream shop and a real coffee house for the morning after within a few scenic blocks. You can fly home on interstates if time gets short, but the back roads are really the point.

Check eBay. I found my '06 there. 16K easy miles. Carrera S wheels, PASM, SC+, PCM2.1, Bose. I bought mine from Grainger Honda in Savannah, GA. The seller is a relative of the Honda dealer and they moved their exotic business in to save rent and other expenses when the crash came. They had the mechanics at Hilton Head Porsche (sponsor) look it over. It was prepared immaculately and I had the eBay protections on the purchase. We drove it back to Chicago and it was a classic trip.
A lot of legitamite dealers are advertising high end cars on eBay now to get more exposure for their inventory. It's a bit of work for them to take all the photos, but it worked for me. This guy had 100% feedback and I know what a bad mark can mean to his business. I had leverage, maybe more than at a local dealer.
By the way "under 10K miles" isn't necessarily good for an '06 or '07 vehicle. That means it may have been improperly stored for a year or two or just forgotten. (Lifestyles of the R & F!!) I passed up an '07 with under 7K on it. Wrong options and price was $42+K
This car was never tracked. It never had the tool kit removed. There were two small paint chips on the front and a scratch under the front air dam where the previous owner obviously pulled up too close to one of those curbings in a parking lot. That's it. Fresh fluids throughout. The original Carrera S wheels were unscratched and spotless. The original PSII tires still have a few miles on them at near 20K. Everything works. You could eat off the wheel wells on this car when I drove it myself out of the immaculate showroom. I've seen new car deliveries that were less perfect.
I have a lift at home and I've really looked this thing over. It was owned by a female relative of the Allman Brothers band members. It was traded for a newer C4S.
There are good deals and good dealers on eBay Motors. You have to be a little careful, but that's true of any car purchase.

Slim chance of me changing my mind. Take a look at my join date on this forum. Been waiting for the right time & car and now seems about right.

Good advice... my car was originally on ebay. The transaction was ultimately completed out of ebay but the dealer has 100% positive feedback with over 200 auctions. And compared to the cars that he currently has at auction, the cayman was chump change.

To say that the car was sold at a high end dealership would be an understatement. The storage room was full of pricey mercs. Check this one out...

Hey Ducky,
Not sure if you have enough miles under your belt with that gorgeous CS, but what are your impressions thus far compared to your e92?
As you can tell, I'm a diehard Bimmer fan, but am seriously considering a CS by the end of the year--if not sooner!!!
