re: Has anyone taken delivery of 2010 cayman yet
For the hell of it, I ran my configuration through the U.S. site and was shocked at how much cheaper the CS is over there.
My config: 79,996.18 EUR (+/- $105,130 USD) Includes 21% Belgian VAT, but does not include the "Licensing Tax" of 4,957 EUR (+/- $6,900 USD) or the annual plate costs of 1,157 EUR (+/- $1,500 USD) - for an "on the road cost of $113,500 USD...let's not even talk about insurance or the price of gas ($7.88 USD a gallon in my neighbourhood...)
This compared to the same car in the U.S. for $76,935 which admittedly, does not include sales tax (what's the worst case? 6%??). It breaks my heart
I also see you guys don't have to pay 100 EUR for the shading at the top of the windscreen...

If you go onto the UK website and build a cayman you will see the new pdk style steering wheel, it doesnt have the buttons.
This has been confirmed by the dealer as well.

We've got the exact same issue here in Canada....one hour from my home i can get the CS for 25% cheaper in the U.S. on a dollar to dollar basis.

Not to poke my head in again but jman says that his build date was June 23. How can your car already be built when there is no order guide?

Scott - I've been building Caymans on the UK, French, Belgian and US sites for a couple of weeks now. If you build with PDK - you get the PDK steering wheel with buttons (on the UK site also), if you build with a manual transmission and select say the multi-function steering wheel, you get no buttons. The configurator is contextual.
Tried the buttons yesterday at a dealer here in Brussels - I don't see what the fuss is about. Took me less time to get used to them than the paddles on the car I have now.

Here is the pic from the UK configurator
As you can see it's the PDK wheel without the gear change buttons. I would not spec the sports wheel and this feels really good. (much thicker than the old wheel)

Scott - sorry, but that's not the PDK wheel, that's the "standard" wheel which is associated with the manual gear box, for which you can clearly see the shifter in the photo you have provided. Below is a PDK equipped 2009 Cayman with the associated wheel - note the buttons - no paddles.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of 2010 cayman yet
I have been given a completion date of 8/27/09. My past experience is that you can expect at least a week in port waiting to be shipped, about ten days in transit and at least another week in port waiting to be released. The transporter then has to pick the car up and deliver it to your dealership. If your car is already in transit, the big unknown will be the time in port waiting to be released. Your dealer should be able to track each step. My last time around, the car was released to the transporter, and then no one could find it. It turned out to be a paperwork error, but it took close to three weeks from arrival in port to delivery at the dealer.
Good luck!

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of 2010 cayman yet
So you are saying that the PDK is different to the one in the picture that I put up? The only difference I can see is the gear shift buttons.

The photo you put up is of a Cayman with a manual transmission - look at the stick! Then look at the stick in the photo I put up. That's a PDK stick - hence the buttons on the steering wheel.
When you run the car configurator you have the option to run in 2D or 3D (if you have Macromedia Flash installed). If you run the 2D version - you never get an interior shot with PDK - in fact other than exterior and interior colour and your choice of wheels, nothing changes. The interiors are all based on regular gearboxes irrespective of your actual specification. If you run in 3D, as you select options, they appear on the car both outside and inside - including the PDK shifter and steering wheel. It should be noted that the 3D configurator only works in IE - does not work in Chrome or Safari - have not tried Firefox or Opera.

confirm 3D works with Firefox but you do need to install the macromedia flash thing.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of 2010 cayman yet
I know exactly what you mean, the configurator is not what I am talking about though, I know it doesnt change everthing that you pick. (Sat Nav is another example) but that is not what I am saying.
What I am trying to get at is that if you order a 2010 car you will get the PDK "style" steering wheel whether it be a manual or a PDK. If you order a PDK car you will get the PDK steering wheel with buttons. If you go for a manual you get the PDK "style" steering wheel without the buttons.
If you spec'd a car 2 months no matter if it was PDK or manual it showed the older thin type of steering wheel hence why most people went for the sports steering wheel. About a month and a half ago this changed and Porsche added the new steering wheel that you see in the configurator. I have had this confirmed by the dealer and by my two members of family that work for Porsche UK.

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of 2010 cayman yet
My 09 S with PDK has the newer wheel which looks like a sport wheel. The shift buttons don't bother me in the least.
However, for those that have an issue with the direction could the leads be switched so that pushing results in a down shift and pulling makes an up shift?

Re: Has anyone taken delivery of 2010 cayman yet
Thank you for the helpful info. Last I heard from my dealer was that it should (the key word should) arrive in port sometime this week and then from there he can track it while sitting and in transit. I don't know how long I should expect for the car to come from Baltimore to NY. Hopefully not long, the closer it gets to within my grasp the less patience I have. Thanks for the info.

I can see it now... some poor dumb b'tard buys this modified car used...not aware of the reverse shift polarity... runs automatic for a while...then starts feeling comfortable... takes her up to near red line and bravely presses the wheel shifter button to upshift to the next gear...BANG !!! the explosion is defening...metal parts are spewing all over the road and the car slowly coasts to a stop...

And how would that happen with a PDK?
