Nurenburgring lap times?

I saw a recent thread quoting some lap times for Cayman S's and 911's at the ring. I just read an article today that put a BMW 335i Twin Turbo at 1.17.8 and the BMW M3 at 1.16.3. How does this compare (ignoring temperature, track condition and etc.)? Thank you, Joe

That car wold have to be going 1000 mph - most times around the 'Ring (Nordschleife- the north loop) are in the 7-8 minute range for a pretty darn fast car... something's wrong here, Joseph.

Shows that the track really favors cars with high horsepower, although I have a hard time believing the M5 time despite its horsepower number. Faster than a 996 Turbo and 360 Challenge Stradale? I don't think so, not any M5 I've ever seen.

Anyway figure a stock Cayman at around 8:11 and a lightly modified Cayman is going to come in right around 8 minutes flat. It would be interesting to know what that one Cayman race car was turning in the 24 hours of the Ring this year. Anyone know?

The M5 was most likely driven by Hans Stucker. If you've ever seen the M3 video going around the net with Hans driving ... I'd believe it. That guy is good ...

I think it's pretty funny that the BMW Z8, a convertible, beat the Ferrari F355.
