The Long Road Home

After almost one month at sea, the Rhea Leader docked in San Diego and unloaded my CS Friday. The final few weeks in a process taking five months. Ugh!

Oh...I so know how you feel right now.

However, much as beta-endorphins will help a woman forget the pain of childbirth, once you have your hands on the steering wheel and finally give that key a twist...all will be forgotten.

Congrats, but 5 months is too long to have to wait for any car, even a P car! I'm not that patient.

I agree! I should have done more research into what other dealers had in terms of build allocations before placing the deposit. Three months from order to build was too long.

Yea, that goes against about every marketing concept today.

Makes me wonder if it is intentional on Porsche's part, and why. Keep operating at full capacity, backlog from changing production facilities, some kind of corporate philosophy to create an exclusivity aura.

The problem is that unlike many other manufacturers Porsche, are still producing relatively small number and offer a lot of different options, so each car is built to order, whether dealer or customer order. Because they don't simply build stock cars they need to carefully plan the process so that they have gaps in production or materials required for your specific car.

Fitting one car in here or there may not seem much but in terms of manufacturing and production logistics it is.

Porsche from having some great years to some very poor years it seems are now having to pick up. The Middle East and Africa region had it's all time highest sales in 2011, and the Dubai dealer sold 1500 units alone, to again be the No.1 in worldwide Porsche sales!
Add on top of that siginificant increases in sales in Asia, especially China (which 3 or 4 dealers there took the next top spots after Dubai) then production may need the breathing room.

That's amazing. Do you have a list of the 2011 top 10 worldwide dealers? I'm curious to see which, if any, U.S. based dealers made that list.

As frustrating as the wait was, I really appreciated having complete control of all the options. I didn't have to accept anything I didn't want, and the car really felt like it was mine, as opposed to picking something off the dealer's lot.

YMMV.

Re: The Long Road Home

It is great to know that each car has been customized, pretty cool! After your first few miles, all will be forgotten. What was your spec? Have no doubt you'll love the new ride, enjoy!

Re: The Long Road Home

At first, the selection of options and customizations was complete overload. Below are the specs from my order. After having time to study the details of available customizations and seeing photographs of examples, I could have gone OCD on the interior design.

Platinum Silver Metallic
PDK
PASM
Limited Slip Rear Differential
Sport Chrono Package Plus
Black/Stone Grey two-tone full leather interior
Carpets in deviating color (Black)
Leather storage bin lid with crest
Leather gear selector gate surround
Adaptive sports seats
Heated seats
Sport design steering wheel
Illuminated door sill guards stainless steel
LED door-pocket lighting
Voice control
Rear luggage partition
Convenience Package
Porsche crest embossed headrests
Automatically dimming mirrors
Rain sensor
Headlight washers
Automatic climate control
Bi-Xenon headlights
Infotainment Package
PCM
Navigation module
BOSE surround sound
SiriusXM

And thanks to the recommendations from this forum's members, the following third-party accessories will be added.
Schild hood protector
Clear side markers
Hoen chromium W5W side marker bulbs
Hoen chromium signal bulbs v2
ClearBra

I didn't order special wheels. However, when the first set of tires wears out, I'm thinking of adding 19” Boxster Spyder wheels.

If they didn't get the order right, I might have to “settle” for a CR another dealer has on the lot.

Sounds like a great spec. I made a thousand changes to my spec and they still got it right, so I don't think you have anything to worry about there.
