Country: | | | CS Ordered! finally ordered a CS back in October! The wait is killing me, but I knew that would be the case when I ordered :-/
One thing that my dealer cannot find out for me is if the CS is being built in Finland or with Magna Stey in Austria. Anyone out there know whats going on? |

Maybe wrong on that but am pretty sure.
Either way the wait will be well worth it!

It lists Stuttgart as final assembly and 66% Germany and 3% US content. Not sure this answers your question, but I think this means, as my sales person had indicated, that they are building these in germany these days.
Others may have more information I'm sure....
Congratulations BTW!!!! |

That is when the Finnish plant shut down production. The Austrian plant will begin production of the 981 series, not the 2012 987. Anyone heard different? |

I'm looking forward to my time in the Swamp

Anyone heard different? | Looks like you will be getting one of the last Caymans from a relatively short production run in Stuttgart as I understand that 987 production has now ceased, with 981 production starting up late in 2012 ( in Austria).
Production transferred from Finland to Germany back in early May 2011 I understand. I ordered by CS around that time and when she arrived on 24 June I discovered that mine was one of the early ones out of Stuttgart.
With a short 6 month or so German production run, I wonder how many Caymans were produced? Maybe we could form an exclusive club lol

Actually getting an allocation took about 2-3 months of being a tenacious s.o.b. It's a long story that I'll have to write up and share with everyone here.
Getting excited! |

The optimist sees the opportunity for an exclusive club. With all the pretentious snobbery of owning a car from "The Source". However, the pessimist may speculate there are issues in the product when tooling up a new production line for a vehicle not previously produced there. I'm going to choose to be an optimist!

And total number produced?

Getting excited! | Thoughts of issues you had to overcome will fade very fast the first time you sit behind the wheel and turn that key...although we will of course be interested to hear about what happened if you are able to share your story.
Great spec (I almost went for white too) and just to echo other postings here look forward to some pictures.

Car seems very solid and well screwed together - Seven months and 4998 miles later I'm please to say no problems so far other than:
1. I seem to have developed a car cleaning obsession (much to my neighbors amusement)
2. The local Petrol station I use seems to have moved from being 1 mile away to about 10, sometimes 15 miles away!
3. I'm always looking at the posts on this forum.
The same thoughts re possible issues about Stuttgart having to tool up for the Cayman did occur to me when I found out mine was born there. But maybe it wasn't such a big issue for Porsche as there was some degree of Boxster production there (cant remember the annual figure was; it was mentioned on National Geographic's Megafactories program that covered 911 production at Stuttgart - well worth a viewing) plus the engines were already being built at Stuttgart.

Funny story, and shows the delivery info system isn't so hot, I got a call on one particular day to say the car was about to be shipped over from Germany (would take about a week etc) then later the same day (or the next day I cant recall precisely) got a call to say it had just turned up at the show room! - a nice surprise indeed!
