Question about service

I have an 08 Cayman S which I need to do the 90,000km service on. My usual place (Pfaff) is saying this is a major service and will cost about $1200.

I asked at another place (EU Autowerks) and they say its a minor service which will cost $550.

Can anyone offer any insight here? I'm not sure if Pfaff just made a mistake or whether it is a major service @ 90,000 km.

thanks,
M

Re: Question about service

You need to ask what is required in the service: oil change? bleed the brakes? air filters? plugs? brakes? Based on what's suggested/required we can provide guidance.

Re: Question about service

Just as a reference, I just had my "major" service done this past summer at my local dealer which I consider "reasonable" compared to what others have posted... Major service was $795. Also did brake bleed (every two years) $129. So the total was $924 USD.

As hack posted, $1200 may be reasonable depending on what is going to get done... if you add plugs as well, I am sure my bill would have come close.

Here is a menu of charges from my dealer if it helps... Also, don't forget many dealers give a 10% discount on service if you are PCA member, not sure if this is true for CA as well, but may be worth checking and joining.

Re: Question about service

m445: Check in your maintenance/service booklet to see whether the 90,000 km service is a minor or major service. [Previous services might be recorded in the pages that follow the service descriptions]

For our '06 CSs (USA cars) the 20,000-mile/2-year service is a minor service, while the 40,000-mile/4-year service (including new plugs) is a major service. The former cost me $454 USD at the Porsche dealer in 2008, while the latter cost me $848 USD at the same place in 2010.

My '06 CS gets its 6-year service tomorrow; another minor service, but this time at the independent Porsche shop that does my intermediate/annual services.
