Delivery, etc Questions

Well the wait's almost over and it looks like I'll be taking delivery the end of the week on a new Cayman. I've read the delivery checklist, etc but have some remaining questions that I'm hoping someone might be able to answer:

1. For those who have bowed to pressure from local authorities, as I'm probably going to do, did the license plate bracket on the front have the name of the dealer. If it's not being rude, I'd like to request from the dealer a plain front license plate holder. If I can't, would the holder be easily replaceable with another one later on?

2. Is there a waiting period for the paint to cure before a clear bra should be put on it?

3. Is the clear bra installation typically done through a dealership or an independent shop?

4. Would putting the film on the sides of the car give protection from door dings and vandalism (keying, etc.)?

Thanks for any thoughts on these last minute questions.

Re: Delivery, etc Questions

Congrats on the new Cayman!

Get a tow hook bracket for your front plate, you won't have to drill holes into the bumper and you can remove it after inspection. US Millworks or Mower Axle.

I had my clear bra installed a few weeks after getting the car, most dealers install prior to delivery if you request it.

The clear bra installer should be the best you can find, a custom install will reduce visible lines, make waxing easier and cover more of the paint but a custom install requires cutting with a razor and an amateur will cut into the paint due to lack of experience. If your dealer has a very good installer which is well known then you can go through them but expect to pay more.

A clear bra will protect against keying but I doubt it will protect against a door ding. Best way to avoid a door ding is to park in areas where others won't or can't.

Don't confuse the license plate bracket/mount with the license plate frame. If your dealer goes ahead and installs the bracket (drilling holes in your bumper), he will probably also install your license plate using a frame bearing the dealership's name. If so, it can be removed/replaced with a screw-driver. You can buy a plain one anywhere for < $10, or toy can just omit the frame altogether. I prefer a simple black frame.

The importance of finding an experienced shop and a custom install can't be overstated enough when it comes to bras.

Here is a blast from the past thread with photos:

Re: Delivery, etc Questions

You can have the dealer install the clear bra before you pick the car up. No need to wait, unless you can get a better deal elsewhere on the bra.....

I know people who've wrapped the whole car. i think wrapping the entire hood has its benefits, maybe not the whole car....
