Cayman and Boxster ComparisonsThis sub forum is for messages specifically about comparing the Cayman or Boxster to other cars. For example how the Cayman compares to the 350Z or the Boxster to the S2000 or SLK, etc.
But it's nice. I'd buy it. Rear only need to seat 1 or 2 people for a very short time, but if it's a 3 year old kid surely he can go for extended trips there.
NO SACRIFICE of having to compromise with having an engine in the wrong place.
I really think Lotus will target 911 price levels with this car.
Now if they were shave about 500 lbs off that car, go with a smaller motor of about 225-250 hp, and price it along Elise/Cayman lines.....that would be tempting.
I love Lotus, and the Elise is a brilliant enthusiast automobile, but I doubt that the Evora will pose a serious threat to the 911 or the Cayman as it does not have the established refinement, dealer network, and enthusiasts to drive it to that level. Still, I like the direction Lotus is heading with the Evora.

Aren't you jumping the gun a bit w/ that proclamation? I suspect there will be plenty of compromises, namely dealer support (at least in Austin) and reliability to start w/.

lotus is very different than Porsche. The models they have been producing lately are very raw low to no thrills, very functional to the point track cars. Maybe this one will be a bit more sproofed up with gadgets (I personaly doing it) in the end both companies produce (I think) great cars one just needs to know what they are getting into when electing to go with one or the other
After the Evora was officially revealed in London, Lotus CEO Michael Kimberley has made it clear that more variants of the 2+2 were on the way. Six different versions are planned, including a convertible – originally confirmed the day the Evora debuted – that will keep the coupe fresh over its eight-year lifespan.
While a drop-top is nice, power is what the people crave. So within two years expect another naturally aspirated variant that boosts the 3.5-liter V6's engine from 280 to 320 hp. After that, it's all about forced induction. The mid-mounted V6 has been positioned in the engine bay to accept a supercharger, which will bring output up and over 400 hp, dropping the 0-60 time to under four seconds and making the Evora "S" a serious contender to the Porsche 911 Turbo.
I bet this same type of very tight 2+2 seating with mid-engine, will be the way of the new Porsche 911's replacement that many say is coming out in 2011.

Although it'd seem a logical course of action, but where did u hear that from?!

A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!
More details about the production Lotus Evora have emerged. The car was at the Geneva motor show where its £47,500 kick-off was confirmed, but the price list has since been thrashed out.
£47.5K will buy you a base 2+0 car, which forgoes rear seats for some extra luggage space. If you want to turn your Evora into a children-friendly 2+2, the price goes up to £49,875. That'll rise further should you delve into the options list, too, with a sports-ratio six-speed manual (£1495), forged alloy wheels (£1495), Bi-Xenon lights (£550) and Sport Pack (£950) likely to be some of the more popular extras.
The first 200 UK cars will barely leave an options box unticked, with a high specification and corresponding £58,460 price. Everything from Alpine premium ICE to a very un-Lotus reversing camera feature, as well as the 2+2 seats.
The Lotus Evora - complete with 276bhp 3.5-litre V6 - goes on sale in the UK on May 2 2009.
The guys in Europe will have first crack at Lotus's first all-new production car in more than a decade. Assembly of the Evora is under way, with deliveries of the 2+2 mid-engine coupe beginning in May.
North American will have to sit tight until the Evora lands here early next year.
Like its smaller and more extreme Elise/Exige brethren, the Evora is built on an extruded and bonded aluminum chassis. Sitting midship is a 3.5-liter V6 churning out 276 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Lotus claims 0 to 60 mph will take about 5 seconds and a top speed of more than 160 mph.
In addition to the 2+2's interior configuration, the Evora also will be available as a two-seater with the rear seating area used for additional cargo space. Other Evora offshoots in the pipeline include an automatic-transmission-equipped model, a convertible and a rumored S version with a supercharged V6 with more than 300 hp.
Lotus calls the Evora its practical model with its larger dimensions, plusher interior surroundings and four-seater capabilities, but you would be a fool to think it is without the company's hallmark handling pedigree. The double-wishbone suspension features Bilstein shock absorbers paired with Eibach springs, and the car rides on Yokohama Advan Sport tires. Four-piston brakes are supplied by AP Racing.
The interior boasts a standard Alpine stereo, air conditioning, power windows, front leather Recaro sport seats, a flat-bottomed, leather-wrapped magnesium steering wheel and a leather-wrapped shift knob and handbrake cover.
Optional entertainment packages add an upgraded sound system with a subwoofer, more powerful amplifiers, an iPod connection and touch-screen navigation. A rearview camera also is offered. Performance enhancements are available through a Sport pack that boosts the Evora's throttle response and redline and add a sports traction-control mode, a sports diffuser, a titanium exhaust, cross-drilled brake discs and an additional oil cooler.
Pricing details for North America will not be available until the fall, but expect a base price in the low-$70,000 range when the Evora arrives next year.
Nice car. Can't wait to test drive one. Before it was a celica motor and now it's a camry? They should put a subaru motor and now it's the same balance as the cayman.

It looks really nice. However, it looks too much like the TESLA. The first thing I though when I saw the tesla up close is that Lotus sold it's soul. Its clear to me now that I was right.
I will still test drive, and you may even find me putting in a deposit for a number in line. This may be a great car to have in the garage.

The engine is between the wheels, but just barely. Do the rear passengers have pedals like a bike? Do you have to carry special dummies in the rear seats to maintain the car's balance?
