CAYMAN vs 911 CABRIOLET

I had a chance to Drive a 1999 Carrera Cabriolet 911 last weekend. The Cayman is my first porsche so I was excited to see the difference even though the 911 was 9 years old .My Cayman felt 100x Tighter and better and get this... FASTER? how ? The 911 has the 3.4 and 6 speed .The Cabriolet had a hard top and a ground effects package so maybe it was the extra weight or Porsche cars have just gotten Much better Tourque in the last 9 years. Also The shifting was NOT tight like my cayman ,and I could hear plastic Creaking a little (The Interier Pieces) I did not get a tightly built feeling like I do driving the Cayman and the handling was not as nimble as well . OVERALL ..It was like Night and day to me.Just thought I would share this with My Fellow CC members that our Caymans are REALLY AWSOME made cars in Every way ..No offense to any 911 owners maybe the newer ones feel different? But I just do not see how my little 2.7 could feel Faster ?

I've driven lots of times a 2003 Carrera 4S (it has the 3.6 with 320hp) and I undestand what you're saying about build quality. The car since new, never felt as tight or solid as my 07' Boxster. The gearbox also has longer throws and the lever moves around more than mine, but I do prefer the clutch in the carrera, its more than double the stiffness.

But on the power issue, my base Boxster would never be able to keep up with the Carrera, not in a hundred years. A 99' carrera with 300 horses and a hardtop installed might be another story. But if its a newer (997) carrera I wouldn't mess with i even if its convertible, and has a family of four inside!

Yes That is what I was referring to the gearbox has longer throws .I did not like that It just seemed like a struggle to go smooth a fast like my Cayman does. I bet It wast the Hardtop and Ground Effects package that was weiging it down some and probally the fact that I was not use to it ,the Clutch was at the floor !! Very different .I see that the newer 911 has a new Interior and looks to be so much better.I have always liked the look of the 911A very Classic car from the begining and they seem to have a better resale value then the Cayman and Boxster.although I see there is a 2003 boxsterS for sale in my neighborhood for $34,995 and the guy wont budge much .silver with only 9K miles but thats a great resale ..
