so how fast is the new cayman s really?

can it really kill a pre-facelift base carerra?

can it outrun a evo x?

how about a run with the new e92 m3?

or is it just faster than the average sports car (TT, SLK, 350Z) and still slower than the big boys?

i don't think anyone knows for sure yet, but I bet:

pre-facelifted carerra - yes, but it won't kill it

EVO X - my '06 S is faster

E92 M3 - new cayman S will not be faster in a straight line

Re: so how fast is the new cayman s really?

On Card and Driver, M3 ran exactly the same for 0-60 and quarter mile with the new base 911. Both cars had dual clutch.
0-60 mph was 4.1 seconds for both cars.
I don't think the new CS would run as fast as the new 911 base with dual clutch.
It's wouldn't be far off but still slower thats for sure.

Re: so how fast is the new cayman s really?

If you are talking 0-60 times then a simple comparison of power to weight ratios will show you who comes out tops. (basically - other things obviously factor in but this is the main equation)

If you are talking top end you will have to factor in drag coefficient into the equation...

But then again, who really cares about how fast you can go in a straight line. Porsche are all about what goes on in the twisties.

The new Cayman S is faster than any of the cars you listed around the track.

Next question.

Re: so how fast is the new cayman s really?

I've really found value in the comments from other board members - especially those that have pointed out the following:

1.) If you want 0-60, buy a tricked out Roush Mustang
2.) If you want pure speed without refinement, buy a Corvette
3.) If you want refinement without speed, buy a lexus

But, if you want an indescribable daily driving experience that rewards you every day, buy a Porsche.

Agree except if you really want 0-60, buy a motorcycle like a ZX14 Kawasaki ... about $11K ... runs high 9 second quarters stock. The new VMax looks interesting too, 190 RWHP. Rode a Vmax for 8 years, decided to sell it before I died on it.

Re: so how fast is the new cayman s really?

Saw a stock evo x run a quarter and its pretty slow, 14+ secs. Of course modified ones are much faster.

Its already been reported that a 2009pdk CS is the same as a base 997pdk.

My stock 63 Avanti will do that.
