Was the cayman in the same class as the 911 gt3 rsr's? That's the only way to account for 4th overall/3rd in class business. Seems a bizarre class arrangement to me.
The RSR's were in SP7 - same as the Cayman. The Viper is in SP8 while the M4 was in SP6. Not sure about the class rules but it makes some sense - displacement alone can categorize them in that manner.....

What an awesome race. Sad though it was shortened thanks to the crazy weather we have had here in the Eifel region. The Caymans sure showed in force and if it weren't for technical problems I'm sure things may have been different. I'm glad the 997 RSR's finished strong with Olaf Manthey's crew backed by Porsche team drivers taking the top podium spot. I was sitting in the Mercedes Benz Arena and saw some exciting moments to include the celebration donuts by the Manthey Racing team.

It looks like the SP* classes are based solely on engine displacement. Additionally, for each range of displacement there are restrictions of minimum weight and fuel capacity. Kind of what I expected as that is the norm for most endurance races.
Behind the podium finishers, the Alzen Porsche Cayman RS finished fourth. While the car struggled during the first VLN rounds, the performance at the 24 hour race was almost flawless.
Not to be too much of a wet blanket, but these Caymans are so heavily modified compared to what we buy at our dealer that it is difficult for me to get very excited about how these cars perform at a racing event.

And you think the 997 RSR's aren't???? Those are full blown race cars, full cages gutted interiors minimal electronics, fuel cells, the works. The fact that the Cayman can be modified into similar form and be just as competitive on a private budget as opposed to having factory backing does say something about the car, that it is every bit as good as the 911... then again it is a Porsche, it should be.

It's the family resemblance that counts. Whether WRC, F1, ALMS, NASCAR, etc it's the kindred spirit that really matters - so, no wet blanket, just optimism showing itself!

My favorite part was the in-car views of the Alzen Cayman from the live video feed. You could see those distinctive air vents still on the dash. You'd think they would have gutted the interior but it seems they didn't completely.

You didn't happen to record any of those did you? I'm still waiting to hear if the Alzen team wants to do an interview here...
Sorry, I didn't think to capture the stream. I do have video of the race that I downloaded from "other sources" if you are interested in that.
Sure, if the video is large you can send to me on CD/DVD and I will FTP it up to the server and share it via our Files directory. PM me for mailing address if you need it.
Did you guys notice all the cars have a Gran Turismo decal on the windshield. Was that required.
Yeah, they were pimping GT HD during the video feed all of the time. Looks like a beatiful game, now I just need the PS3 to do a price drop. Although I may just hold off until GT5 comes out. Forza 2 is more than enough for me right now.
To give a little more information in the above clip, it's an onboard lap of the Nordschleife with Pierre Kaffer at the wheel of the MSpeed Porsche Cayman on 4/17/2007.
The new Porsche Cayman of the Alzen team pleases the fans on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Porsche does not love the running version however completely so.
Porsche is sour. That had to come in such a way. Finally engine haven is reserved with the noblen Stuttgart sports car farmer the 911er-Modellen. But now shakes calculated the small, but fine troop around the two brothers Jürgen (44)
