You guys really don't want to be using these race pads on the street. They will always be a compromise. It's rare that you get them to not make some noise. It can happen, but in my experience, they always make noise eventually.

This question has been asked 100 times and Craig has answered it 100 times "Yellows for the track. Stock for the street".

The only problem now is that the new stock pads also seem to make noise. I'm getting interested in some ceramic pads for the street when my noiseless stock pads get thin...some that don't make dust or noise. I had a set of Akebono on my A6 for a while and they were great. I know I'll sacrifice a little stopping power over stock pads, but I think a little more pedal effort is worth not having to clean my wheels on a daily basis in summer.

When you change pads, do you clean your rotors? With pads off, squirt Windex on both sides and wipe with a couple paper towels. You'll be amazed at what comes off. Also do this with new rotors because there is a coating of rustproofing on them that mixes with pad compound and makes noise.

Re: Which Pagids?

I agree, the Yellow track pads are better left for the track. I do drive them to and from the track typically. I'm sure the Blue-sports will settle down a little for daily driving. Just a bit annoying at the moment.. but then again, my OEM pads were squealing a lot too.
Either way, the Yellows are the way to go for the track. and Blue Sport or Stock for street.. I went with the Sports because I wanted to keep stick with Pagid compounds while switching back and forth.

And thanks for the Windex advice. I didn't do that but will next time for sure.

Thanks!

Windex really works for this. My first set of Orange long ago got mounted to an M3 along with brand new rotors. I thought I was all set. The invisible goo from the new rotors came off on the pads as I drove down to the track. When I got the pads hot, the stuff congealed on the rotors as some black goo. The brakes shuddered so badly, I thought the rotors had severely warped. Using them really hard would help temporarily, but it came back. I had trouble all weekend. I ended up putting that set of rotors aside and getting a new set. When I cleaned them with Windex, the rag was black...with brand new rotors.

I've also had the same sort of gunk appear when I changed pad compounds. Some compounds, even Pagid to Pagid, don't mix with others, so just clean the rotors every time you change pads or rotors. You can also use brake-clean, but it is a lot more toxic and flammable and it smells. Out west, they are watering the stuff down so badly that it might not be worth using anymore. Windex or any similar window cleaner seems to do the job. I think it's the ammonia.

Re: Which Pagids?

HI Guys, Just put on the light blue 4-2 on the front, orange 4-54 on the rear. I beeded them in yesterday and have zero noise so far.

What I did was I used the TIspeed plates on the back of then, on the pad side I put the ceramic paste across the whole plate, front and back, to hold them in place. I also took off the flat leading and trailing edge of the pads on the side with a file.

Will let you know if I get any noise.

The stopping power so far has been REALLY good over the stock fronts ( for Brembo f50 kit ) and stock rears. after my alignment, I will do some distance stops to see if it stops us in less distance.

Re: Which Pagids?

Chamfering the leading edges of the pad and a good bedding in made my Blues virtually silent.

Re: Which Pagids?

I spray the backs of my Pagid Yellows with "CRC Disc Brake Quiet" and they remain nice and quiet until I burn if off at the track. I've driven on the Yellows for weeks at a time without any issues. I use the same stuff to silence my street pads.

Sounds like an opportunity to increase the market segment of the RS 19 (Yellows)!

By the way, by "Blues," here I assume you mean the Sport pads, which happen to be painted blue, but use the same compound as the RS 4-2-1 (Black). Correct?
