Which Pagids?

Just taken delivery of my Cayman S, and now want to start lookign at some mods as I will probably do a few track days this summer and do a couple of trips to the Nurburgring.

As I won't be swapping out the pads specificaly for the track days what Pagids would you recommend (front and rear).

Pagid street pads come in two forms, sport street blues and blacks.

They are comparable to Axxis Ultimates in that they dust less than OEM, can be used for occasional track days BUT, if you drive hard best get dedicated track pads.

Either race blues - RS4-2 or race yellows - RS4-3 (I think). I went with blues as they are supposed to be quieter on the street. They make noise sometimes. I may go with yellows next, and install anti squeal shims. Also take a look at the Tech forum.

Arent yellows too aggressive for the street (Blues for that matter)?

I always swap pads for the track.

Yellows almost always make ~quite~ a bit of noise on the street.
Pagid Oranges are a nice choice for your application.......but I've started carrying a nice alternative:

Pagid Sports!
Very similar to Pagid Orange BUT they have an attached nose suppression plate to make them even quieter.

Track worthy, fully streetable, acceptable dust & noise -

Picture 3 is the front of a Cayman S
Picture 1 is the rear of all Caymans
Picture 2 is the front of non-S Cayman

Same price as Pagid Orange - until I modify the website, order the Oranges and specify in the comments section that you wish to purchase the SPORTS -

Can you get away with driving yellows on the street? I mean is there greater (much greater rotor wear than stock pads?)

Are the sport pads a better pad to swap between the yellows and the sports vs yellows and stock (I mean do the pad compunds mix well without having to break them in?

Wear rate on rotors with Yellows is pretty low.

Personally:
I drive my Yellows on the street 100% of the time, but they *are* dedicated track pads that have less friction when dead cold - I officially can't recommend it.

I would swap between Sports and Yellows, this is the ideal solution.
The Sports can handle moderate track use quite well, too.
Quite similar to the Oranges yet quieter -

I have noticed that when I am on the track my Pagid yellows are quiet under hard braking, but still squeal quite a bit at times under mild-moderate braking, even when warm - is that normal?

It is. Are you talking about street use?

The most noise from the Yellow compound comes:
1) Long after a track day when the 'street glaze' has set in.
Often they are completely quiet for 2 weeks after a track day!

2) Under light braking from about 10mph to a complete stop

I track my car (almost exclusively) and use pagid blues on front and stock pads on rear. Stopping power is immense and the pads are extremely durable - I probably got 10 trackdays out of my last set. Interestingly the stock rears perform very well and outlast the pagids on the front since the fronts obviously do the work. However I am getting some wiggle under heavy braking but dont know if this is the mismatch in the pads or if its typical of the car under this kind of situation (I mean VERY heavy braking). Its fair to say that I am probably heavier on the brakes than most.Havent tried the other pads..

One piece of advice for OP - If you are going to a more agressive pad than stock, you should absolutely install the OEM vibration dampers (shims) to avoid noise. My experience is that stock pads stay pretty quiet even without the OEM dampers but anything more aggressive will be noisy.

Craig: Can you find out from Pagid how does the 4-2-1 pad compound compare to the RS 4-2 compound? Both are called blues, and I recommend we stop doing that as this will confuse all of us.

4-2-1 is pretty much a street pad and in my opinion it doesn't offer enough to consider purchasing it --

Yep they do, my bad -

Corrections:
-The Blue 4-2 are very close to the RS44 Orange
-The street pads I referred to above are the Pagids of entirely another type that are more closely related to OEM. I don't recommend them -

4-2-1 are also known as the Sport pads

Typically the Yellows are switched for track days - they usually will squeak on the street.
Mine do, and quite a bit

Good thing about Cayman brakes - they are very easy to change!

Tip: TO increase pad life and minimize re-bedding, mark the pad locations:
ie: LI LO / RI RO for left inner / right outer, etc - this way the pads more closely match the disc surface upon reinstall.

Quite easy on the rotors, I find that when dead cold they require a bit more pressure for the first and second street stops.
