Exclamation HOLED ROTORS....the worst I've seen. HARD track days: A case to NOT use them

HOLED ROTORS - yet another example...and we thought Porsche owners had it bad!

And we thought WE had it bad with the cast holes in *our* Porsche rotors?

Nissan GT-R, a customer car used at the track just a few times:

This is the very reason why one should get away from holed rotors....
And also why I am a vendor for Gorodisc slotted hats & rotors - holed rotors for hard(er) track use = bad news.....

Re: HOLED ROTORS....the worst I've seen. HARD track days: A case to NOT use them

I have 36,000 miles on the OEM rotors that came with my car when new and they are only being swapped out today for a brand new set of the same rotors.

I have used both OEM street pads and full race pads with no problems. I would say that for $500 for front and rear rotors, thats pretty good going.

Re: HOLED ROTORS....the worst I've seen. HARD track days: A case to NOT use them

And like many things, it greatly varies. Some only get 8 track days from a set of OEM rotors. Some have severe cracking & grooving. Most have it moderatley to severe. A few have next to none.

It's one of those "right tool for the job" things - and one has to ask what WILL my exact usage be?

I think the stock rotors are fine for CASUAL track use. They are cheap enough that even after 10 track days, they're cost effective to replace vs. more expensive rotors.

The Gorodiscs are great for more advanced and frequent track use.

That's on the Wall of Shame, right?

I suppose repeatedly stopping two tons of GTR must be rather strenuous on the brakes...

Re: HOLED ROTORS....the worst I've seen. HARD track days: A case to NOT use them

They are not worn much, since they are not groved. Boy are they cracked! If I had to guess the metalurgy is not great for the application, or they had really terrible cold shock. Even then they should not have cracked so bad without being worn further.

I am now happy with my original Cayman S rotors. My Girodisks look hardly worn with 5-6 track days; I use Pagid yellow for the track, and Oem for the street. That is the best of both worlds.

I suspect some sort of mistreatment - I've never seen anything so sudden w/o grooving at all (as mentioned above)!

Brad, aren't you still using your original OEM rotors?
