Insurance DE & Autocross
Anyone have experience with Hartford Insurance and doing DE and autocross ?
Does their policy cover or exclude coverage for or because of these ?
I recently got a money saving quote from them which was enough to make me consider changing carriers but from talking to their 800 number it seemed like they wouldn't insure you if you did these events. I'm not sure if they knew what they were talking about or even knew what DE and autocross was. I need some info before I change carriers as my present insurer does cover me.

Re: Insurance DE & Autocross
Why don't you ask them to send you a full copy of the policy - you can read the fine print yourself. Any good insurance company will let you read the policy before you buy it. I always insist on it. BTW, asking on here is probably not a good idea unless the respondent lives in your same state - most companies have different policies in the various states they do business in - insurance is regulated state-by-state.

Re: Insurance DE & Autocross
Good points I should just done asked for the policy to read myself but I though I'd get a definitive answering asking at the 800.
The state thing is true so it's New York for those with direct experience with The Hartford.
I was also asking here because what the policy says and what the policyholder's actually experience can be different. Case in point - my carrier will cover track losses; maybe give you hard time about them but finally end up paying and then cancel you on renewal.

Brad --
Do you recall who it was they mentioned at Spring Mountain that offers Track Insurance?
I seem to recall it was about 2-3% of the car's value for a year's coverage....

Re: Insurance DE & Autocross
Cant speak for Hartford, but state farm in NY changed the policy wording to exclude any occurences on a track, this is in addition to the usual wording about excluding losses occuring in timed events and so forth (thinking auto cross). I had to get supllemental insurance thru another carrier (Lockton I think? ) The new wording takes effect with the anniversary of the policy by the way.

Re: Insurance DE & Autocross
We insure our track car with WSIB Insurance ( www.WSIBInsurance.com/de) for track days/HPDE. Coverage is for an entire year and runs about 3% of the cars value. Contact Kraig Hopkins at WSIB.

Re: Insurance DE & Autocross
I plan to stop at a local Hartford office and check out their wording.
Thanks for info on WSIB insurance I'll keep them in mind. So 50K = 1500/yr. sounds good depending on deductible. Ones I've looked at were 5K.
