Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
I am not familiar with the blues. I use Pagid yellows for the track with great success. No complaints about them whatsoever. They also work fine for the street. I usually do not swap them in and out for track use. I generally leave them in full time. There can be some squealing when the pads are new, but it's not a frequent or serious problem. Craig from Rennstore is the best expert on brakes on this forum. I'm sure he will spot this post and weigh in. Good luck whatever you choose to do. I don't think you can really go wrong with Pagid.

There are many Pagid blues. Which ones are you thinking of? Sport? RS 4-2, RS5? I used RS 4-2 and loved the at the track, no pad deposits on the rotor, no vibration, no fade. They did eat my rotors quickly while on the street. I would not leave them on for daily driving.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't it good to have pad deposit on the rotor? I thought that was the main aim behind bedding in the pads?
I have been using Blue RS 4-2 on the car since last summer. If you chamfer the front and rear edges you'll reduce the squeal to zero. Can't comment on dust, as I don't wash the car often enough to notice the differnece. As for feel, they are 10 times better than the OEM. So is initial bite. And on the track I didn't manange to get them to go off, or suffer any noticable fade like I had with the OEM pads.
I have used mine on the street and track.
Another big thumbs-up for Craig. Top bloke.

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
This page here has a good review of the different Pagid compounds.
PAGID Racing
I have used the orange RS 4-4 at the track with no issue but would not recommend them for street use as they squeal real bad when they are cold. For the street I use the stock pads.
Hopefully this is useful.

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
Seems there are two versions of Pagid Blues :
Blue Compound RS4-2 (also known as RS4-2-2? unsure) (I think based on my limited research it is an enhanced compound over the OEM grade Pagid Black RS4-2-1)
Blue Compound RS5 (this is the higher friction content version)
A very good summation of the available Pagid range found in this link :
http://www.racepads.co.uk/downloads/...id2007_cbp.pdf
For me, the question now is :
My main concern is excessive brake squealing on the street (I only track very occasionally) - and the current feedback is that the yellows are very noisy (although with very good braking response) - I can live with minimal noise but not too much...
What then would be a recommended 'middle ground' to provide increased bite (given avg street braking is usually done at colder temps vis-a-vis continual hard braking on the track causing higher working temp) - as the OEMs feel too soft for my liking
Any feedback from current Pagid users highly appreciated

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
I ran the Pagid yellows on the track and the street for a while, the yellows were quiet at first but got noisy after my track days when run on the street. After changing the pads back to street pads I noticed that the brake anti squeal compound had turned crispy. That maybe the reason for the squealing for me and maybe not the pad. I think that any harder compound will have more of a tendency to squeal plus some will be harsh on the rotors when cold. Everything is a compromise. Might want to talk to Craig at the Rennstore about this, he seemed to be pretty knowledgeable.

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
yup Craig is definitely top notch on my list
have been corresponding with him already and will purchase from him whatever I decide given the excellent service given so far
the bad news is that he is on vacation the whole of this/coming week, so in the meantime (I'm in no hurry, rather take my time to select what's most suitable than rush into things) was planning to get feedback from users themselves
much thanks DriveS4spd, good point there
anyone else with pagid experiences to share? (any compound)

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
Just a matter of time until Craig at rennstore chimes in but until then:
+1 on Pagid yellows for the track. They work great with no discernable fade in my case.
I do swap out to the OEMs after track days though. My Pagids do squeal and I know they take more rotor material than the OEMs will. Last week I swapped pads, cleaned wheels and bled all 4 corners in just over 1 hour. And that was in a one car garage!

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
Thanks guys for the good words ;-)
Sifuran PM'd me with requests for information, so I thought I'd let this roll a bit for 'real life experiences' feedback -
There is no current car easier to change pads on than a Cayman!

Sorry, I'd have to disagree with you Craig. A Cayman with 993 turbo "Big Reds" is a bit easier.
You don't have to screw around with the damn safety pin circlips
Of course, that's only my opinion, but then I've dropped one of OEM pins and had a devil of a time finding it. Something to be said for the spring clip rear gate feature of the 993 twin turbo's caliper design.

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
Oh yeah (smack forehead) you are correct - and I have those brakes on my car!
Open spring cage 'door', pry just a bit and lift pads out.

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
IMO anything more agressive than a stock pad will squeal on the street after they have been fully heated up in a couple of track days. I have tried both pagid orange and pagid sport blue for street/track use. Both started quiet but then developed squeal after track use. Now I swap-in Yellow for track and OEM for street which makes my neighbors hate my car a lot less.

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
As posted above, I have been using the RS4-2 since last summer on road and track. They were the reverse of what Mr Brown noted. They squealed very slightly at first on the road, and then as they got well bedded in, the squeal dropped to zero.
I have just fitted a new set of the same RS4-2 Sport Blues (again from Craig) but this time I put a small chamfer at the front and back edge of each pad. I now have zero squeal on this brand new set. I did heat cycle them very heavily the other night and still no squeal, just even better initial bite.
Bluecayman, if you are in any doubt, don't be. Just get the Sport Blues. They are much better than OEM in every way. More inital bite, less fade, firmer pedal feel etc etc. I only track my car very occassionaly, and the blues just stay on the car. They work that well as a cross-over pad. I can't rate them (or Craig) highly enough.
Jack

Re: Pagid blues,the right choice?
Thanks!
They really do make a significant difference, and with the chamfering the leading edge, the chances of noise are greatly diminished.
Just received a new shipment from Germany, so the Blues are ready to go!

I'd like to order a set of these for my '06 CS. Can you PM me a price? Also, on your webstore, the only ones I can find are:
Pagid RS4-2 Blue - front Lotus U1587
Pagid RS4-2 Blue - rear Lotus U1682
What are the part numbers for my car? Should I call to order?
Thanks,
MJ
