Question Do I need new rotors yet?

Hey Folks,
This is after 27K miles, and after my 2nd DE event in the CS.
I use Pagid Yellows for track use.
I have Motul 600 fluid, and the GT3 brake ducts. No overheating of the fluid now.
I do brake hard (as we should), these events have been at the 12-hour Sebring track, which is hard on brakes.
I do 4 to 6 DE events per year 0- next one is in August.
I

So - can these do a few more days?

When I do replace - I would love Girodiscs, but they seem too pricey up front... what are worthwhile alternatives?

Re: Do I need new rotors yet?

You look pretty close. I see cracks from diferent holes joinging in the right most pic.

I think for track use it has to be slotted/solid rotors.

In my opinion it is time to start looking for new rotors, yes you could use these, but they are borderline.

Re: Do I need new rotors yet?

What's the rotor thickness?

The "rule" is replace them if (1) cracks join 2 or more holes, (2) cracks extend to the rotor's edge, or (3) wear reaches 2mm. For track use, I'd err on the conservative side replacing when close to any of the above. Rotor fractures generally occur under hard braking into a turn so you can imagine how catastrophic an event that is. You risk totaling your car (and you). Rotors are simple to replace and the cost savings in stretching the envelope is, IMHO, the definition of a false economy. Some of the cracks look close to joining. I wouldn't bet my life on your rotors. But, YMMV.

I've been happy with oem Porsche rotors (not aftermarket oem "equivalents). I've found the prices to be reasonable and have had good wear and performance.

Re: Do I need new rotors yet?

Time for GiroDiscs.

For less than 550 per corner you will have a complete 4 wheel Cayman S set on which you can replace each rotor for about 290 + 45 for hardware.

I believe in the end you may even save money -

Re: Do I need new rotors yet?

I agree - time for new front rotors! Your rotors are just a bit worse than the ones I replaced on my '07 CS this spring. Fortunately I got 2 years and 12 track days out of my original rotors. I really liked the GiroDisc product, but not the price. I can buy ~5 sets of new front rotors for the price of the GiroDiscs. I was unable to find another non-cross drilled alternative, so I bought Zimmerman Z-coated OEM equivalent rotors instead.

Re: Do I need new rotors yet?

Looks like I may go for Girodics up front, and retain OEM rear discs.
Has anyone else tried this?

Re: Do I need new rotors yet?

Quite a few of my customers have. Represents a good value, and since the rears only do about 20% of the work anyway, why not? Plus, and most importantly, it also works well with no surprises.

I have slotted aftermarket larger discs up front and OEM holed rears on my Turbo.

E-mail or call me for these -
