Suggestions on gloves for AXes during hot days?
I was wondering if anyone could suggest something else but those common huge Nomex gloves?
I have a black CS and since we AX at Devens AFB, all that tarmac does not help. So yes, my palms get sweaty and I would like to get something that would allow me more secure grip.

I have some summer motorcycle gloves that I've used occasionally. Something like this:
Alpinestars Breeze Air Flo Motorcycle Gloves :: New Enough, LTD
Motocross gloves or Mechanix gloves would work too.

I Suggest You Try Buying 'Karting Gloves' - OMP, SPARCO, AlpineStars Etc From a Race Kit Suppliers......
They are Not Nomex - So Not Fire Retardent..... And Way Way Cheaper.....
With Either Hi Grip Synthetic or Suede Leather Palms and Cotton/Polyester Breathable Top.
Buy*Alpinestars Tech 1-KR Kart Gloves*-*Kart Gloves*at*GPR
Buy*Sparco K-100 Kart Gloves*-*Kart Gloves*at*GPR
Sorry - for UK Website - My Regular Supplier - But an Indication of what is available..... Good Luck!

I bought a pair of crochet-back driving gloves from Griots (they have them on sale right now BTW) - comfortable and not too warm for summer wear.

I have seen people use both baseball batting gloves and golf gloves for AX.

Re: Suggestions on gloves for AXes during hot days?
I'm going to be the contrarian and say "no gloves at all". I understand gloves being necessary to protect a driver in case of crash and resulting fire to prevent the hands from being burned, but with regard to grip I've never found any that give me better grip than my hands. If you think about it your hand is gripping the inside of the glove and the outside of the glove is gripping the steering wheel. Now if the inside of the glove is made of leather and so is the steering wheel, aren't you gripping the same thing? I know I know what if your hand sweats? Well I've found when my hands are not in gloves they don't sweat, when inside of gloves they do sweat! Unless my hands are having a problem gripping the wheel (something that hasn't happened to me yet) for an autox I don't really see the necessity... then again maybe it is my sticky hair gel and running my hands through my hair to look good before I drive that gives me the necessary grip...

Re: Suggestions on gloves for AXes during hot days?
Another thing that comes into play, since even the "not greasy" type sun tan lotions are still... (surprise) greasy, that gets onto your hands and mixed with sweat it is just not fun.
My thought was at least a tight glove that also wicks away sweat would help with better grip with a steering wheel. I had couple of slips last season during those 100F degree AXes and since this year I am going for points, I am looking for little things that have an impact. Eliminate enough of them and you are ahead.

My hands get sweaty during DEs, I just bought a pair of workout gloves from the Sporting Goods Store for 10 bucks. They do the job.

Re: Suggestions on gloves for AXes during hot days?
On the Contrary.............. When I Drive Flat Out - My Mouth & Throat Go Very Dry - Similarly My Hands Go 'Dry'.... And Slip on the Wheel......... (OK - They Don't 'Slip', But it Feels Like They Might...)
Wearing Gloves with Suede Palms Gives me a Finer, Secure Grip.............. I Have Recently Added a Perforated Leather Cover to Bulk out my Standard Wheel.... But Still I Will Feel More Comfortable Wearing Gloves.........
My Racing Career.......... Since 1970, required the use of Nomex Gloves..... Perhaps this Has 'Conditioned' my Reasoning.............. However 'Dry Grip' is Not Uncommon...
As Is Hyper Perspiration..............
To Wear Gloves or Not, is a Personal Choice - Make Sure Everyone is Comfortable and in Control..............
Enjoy Your Driving..............

Hmmm... maybe I could use my stinky weightlifting gloves They can handle all those weights I use for bodybuilding, maybe I should try them with that skinny steering wheel $$$ saved for those tires my mechanic told me I need to replace sooner rather than later.

Here are a few suggestions that some Cayman owners forwarded on to us...
With these you can swim just like a Cayman:
These are breathable:
These just look so fancy especially color matched to your car:

Re: Suggestions on gloves for AXes during hot days?
I used to use full finger mountain biking glove, there are simple, thin versions with Clarino palms with small rubber grips, very lightweight and breathable. Also fairly cheap and last a long time. Avoid ones with thick gel pads.
Specialized Bicycle Components : Equipment - BG Ridge Glove
I also have used the regular thin Mechanix pit gloves, just not as form fitting as the bike gloves.
